I’m a top-of-the-order hitter. I have always led off or hit second. I’m very well balanced at the plate, I would say I am more of a contact hitter, but I can still do damage at the plate. I do hit a lot of extra-base hits and get on base a lot. I have great plate discipline. In the summer league I just played in I was one of the league leaders in walks and OBP. I am a great defender. I can play all 3 outfield positions very good. I also have a great arm from the outfield. I get great reads on fly balls and it is very rare that I misjudge a ball in the outfield. I am an above-average runner. I run usually about a 6.9 60 yard dash. I am also a great base runner and can steal bases. I would say that my greatest trait as a baseball player is my baseball IQ. I have great feel for the game and do not make mental mistakes very often.

I’ve been playing all 3 outfield positions my entire baseball career. I am equally good at all 3.

I’m more of a lead-by-example guy. I always show up early or stay late to get extra work. I like to play loose and have fun. I keep the dugout loose and just try to go have fun and not worry about producing so much. It makes me as a player play better. If anyone ever needs help I am very willing to stay after and help them. I have a small coaching background, I was a player coach my senior year of high school and won the leadership award 2 years in a row. I have a lot of knowledge and good drills for hitting and the outfield. I have also coached a 12u travel team as the head assistant in the past and just got done being the head coach of 15 and 18 and under teams in Sweden. I was also a player coach on the team I was playing on. I ran every practice for all three teams.

Had a .442 OBP in a collegiate summer league and had a batting average of .500 in a league in Sweden. Starter in the Swedish all star game.

Overseas Goals

I’ve been playing college ball for 2 seasons and had a great time. I’ve just realized that my true passion is only for baseball and not for academics also. My true dream is to play and coach baseball and I would like to do that professionally around the world.

I just finished playing in a league in Sweden and am looking for an opportunity to play in a winter league in Australia or New Zealand.

Justin Scali

Piedmont College, Head Coach

Tyler is a team-first, hard working player. He is skilled as a hitter, outfielder, and baserunner, and especially as a teammate. Any organization would be lucky to have him as a part of it.

DJ Price

Palm Beach Snowbirds, Head Coach

My name is DJ Price and I'm the Assistant Coach at Barry University and I'm writing you regarding Tyler Smith. Last season I was the Head Coach of the Palm Beach Snowbirds out of the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches. Tyler played for me as an outfielder and DH. He is a left-handed hitter with a knack for finding the barrel and is a solid defensive outfielder. Tyler has a passion for the game and came to the park every day with a passion to learn, grow and compete. He was an absolute pleasure to coach and pushed all the players around him to be better.

Danny Light

High School Head Coach

I had the pleasure of coaching Tyler at Tavares High School, in Tavares, FL, from 2015-2019. During my time as head coach there, Tyler played centerfield, from the moment he stepped on campus as a freshman. He was the consummate leader of our program, pushing every player in our prgram to get better daily, both on and off the field. On top of being a very good player, Tyler had an unquestioned desire to compete and win. He pushed his teammates and me to be better every day. This quality is what allowed him to succeed the most. He is a grinder and will not stop working toward a goal until he accomplishes it. I believe that Tyler would make an exceptional addition to your program. He is the kind of person and player that I want all of my players to be like. Thank you for your time.
