Personal

Hunter is a well-rounded player, with good skills offensively and defensively.

At the plate, he hits for average and power, can hit to all fields, and handles off-speed pitches well.

Defensively, he is quick and has a good first step to the ball, which helps him get into proper position to make plays.  He’s grown up playing shortstop but has played the other infield positions at one time or another.

“Playing the demanding position of shortstop for so long gives me an advantage when playing the other spots,” he says.  “I feel like I can fit into any type of baseball atmosphere.  I work as hard as possible, interact well with my teammates, and display a good sense of humor. I do whatever I can to help others and create solid team chemistry.”

Hunter also has some coaching experience that he can lend to a club.  He has been assistant coach for a 15-under team and head coach of an 18-under club.  He says, “I have played at all types of levels.  My high school team was ranked #9 in the nation, and I’ve played in very competitive situations in junior college and college. I can pass along my knowledge and experience to other players and also give them good life lessons.”

Overseas Goals

Hunter wants to extend his playing career, while traveling and learn about new environments.  He says, “I have always wanted to play overseas, and travel experience new things, places, and situations. I have had multiple friends that have played overseas and have told me it was the best experience of their lives.”

Hitting Coach, Avila University

Hunter Reed is an infielder that has the range and arm strength to play SS/3B efficiently at the professional level. His footwork and glove hand technique are textbook, and Hunter gets quality reads off the bat to determine which angle to attack the baseball. Hunter also throws efficiently from multiple arm angles across the infield with a quick release. He has average base running speed (6.7-6.9 60 YD).

At the professional level, Hunter will be a gap-to-gap hitter that hits for average and flashes some power to all fields. At Avila University, Hunter hit .339/.415/.597 with 8 home runs in his senior season. Hunter is a smart hitter that has a quality understanding of the strike zone and recognizes pitches well. He has a very simple swing that is directional, with no wasted energy into contact, and utilizes the ground well in his lower half.

Hunter treats his game like a professional: always in the cages, weight room, and eats right. Hunter will be an excellent addition to any professional club.
