STEVE SIGNED TO PLAY IN CANADA FOR THE 2018 SUMMER
Steven Johnson is a 2013 graduate of Avila University (NAIA) out of Kansas City Missouri. During the 2015 summer season, in his first year as a professional player, Steve and his 5:1 SO/BB ratio played an important part in the Alpine Cowboys winning their division in the Pecos League. From there Steve decided to take his career overseas for the winter to Brisbane, Australia to play with the Carina Redsox of the Queensland State League for the 2015-2016 season. There Steve continued with his winning ways while also finding himself as a regular part of the offence, something he hadn’t experienced since high school when he was a standout hitter.
After his season in Australia, Steve spent the winter shaking off the rust and finding his swing again before going to Austria to play for the Attnang Athletics in 2016. His hard work paid off as Steve hit hit .391 with 5 homeruns during the regular season, including a walk-off grand slam in his last at-bat of the season. His performance at the plate and on the mound (3.71 era ewith 61 K’s) helped the Athletics climb from the bottom of the league in 2015 to the Austrian championship in 2016, earning him league MVP honors.
Steve returned to the A’s again in 2017 and put up even better numbers hitting .466 with 9 homeruns and holding down an era of 2.69 while striking out 114 in 87 innings while surrendering only 15 walks. Steve also led the league by far in RBI with 52. To nobody’s surprise, Steve won the league’s MVP award again.
His fastball sits in the mid 80’s topping out at 87-88 mph. He throws a 72-74 mph change up and a mid 70’s 12-6 curveball. The past has shown that Steve is a very durable pitcher who will often go the distance and give his team a chance to win. In fact, since 2013 Steve has gone 30-9 and has thrown 10 complete games.
Steve is looking for a team for the 2018 summer that is seeking a quality starting pitcher with a middle of the order bat.
