Personal

Jake Benjamin is hard-working and plays the game right. He can be a weapon at the plate and has a classic swing from the left side, always one of the prettier swings on the team. He’s a disciplined player on both sides of the ball, and his baseball smarts make him a player you can trust every time you write him in the lineup card. His versatility make it so easy to punch him in the lineup wherever you need him. He’s an extremely coachable player and causes no trouble, while also bringing a tough attitude to the diamond, a fierce competitor.
These are just a few common praises I’ve received over the years as a highly competitive ball player from teammates, competitors, and coaches.

My years of playing at a high level has let me travel (Canada & USA) for tournaments for years, exposing me to tons of different teams and players to play against, which has made me the smart and experienced ball player that I am today. I think my skillset brings a lot to the table for a lot of teams, being able to play multiple positions at a competitive level, while also bringing a left handed bat to the lineup that can hit, get on base, and provide some power and smart baserunning on offence. While I believe my skillset is a very competitive asset, I also believe my attitude as a baseball player and my intangibles are a huge asset as well. I’m a disciplined, smart, and very focused player who comes to the ballpark everyday because I love it and I can’t wait to have fun with my team, but I also come with razor sharp focus and a winning mentality.

I think my experience, skillset, and overall mentality as a ballplayer will prove to be a big asset for any team.

Abilities summary: I’ve always been a full time starter everywhere I’ve played, from my Rep and Elite teams, to High School, to my College teams. I’ve been consistently described as an all around player, as I provide solid ability at a lot of aspects. I’m a lefty hitter who can hit to all fields, hit the alleys, hit for a good avg. and OBP. and even provide some pop here and there. I’ve always been a solid defender whether it be picking grounders up the middle at 2B/SS, or manning the corners at 3B/1B. I’ve always been a versatile player with a solid arm and good instinct for the game. My athletic ability has always given me an advantage at defence and on the base path as an OK base stealer but above average base runner.

East York Bulldogs, former coach

Jake is a top notch, responsible young man and a very good baseball player.

I coached him for two years about 5 years ago, batted him 3rd most games, and have kept in touch with him since that time.

Jake is a good left handed hitter with positional versatility who runs well.

He is mature and hard-working and a good teammate. He is very competitive and rises up well in tight situations – he likes the contest.

He was our team MVP as his defensive versatility, speed and great hitting made my job easy as a coach.

AJ Wideman

George Brown Huskies, college coach

Jake is a great kid. His is always receptive and willing to do whatever is asked for the better of the team. His maturity shows daily in our league. Although he could have hit better this fall, it was clearly due to lack of games during the summer. I look forward to seeing what he can do with more reps. He has a solid swing, and a heavier work load should serve him well. You'll find his services best utilized at second base. That's where he's the most comfortable. He knocks balls down consistently and makes the routine play.

Mark Ireland

East York Bulldogs, former coach

I have known Jake for about 12 years. Great kid. Great team mate. Great in the clubhouse.

Jake is a line drive left handed hitter with good pop. He has "plus" speed and "plus" baseball sense. He has soft hands and would be a great fit on any team at second base but can play the left side of the infield as well.

I would strongly recommend Jake for any of the teams in Europe.
