Personal
Cordell has the ability to hit to all fields and is good at driving in runs, with 41 RBIs in 61 games during his last two seasons of collegiate play.
Though primarily a third baseman, he is quite versatile, having also played first base, second base, and both corner outfield positions.
Cordell is the type of player who brings energy to a team. He says, “I am an approachable, supportive teammate who leads by example. I am looking to win, but to also have a good time while doing it because baseball is supposed to be fun.”
Cordell also has coaching experience that a club can leverage. He has been a youth coach, as well as a hitting and fielding instructor at the high-school level. He has a strong knowledge of the game and, having been a player, has a good understanding of what players must go through.
Cordell works out and trains regularly to stay in top condition. He has a daily regimen of stretching, conditioning, throwing and hitting, and he also participates in Jiu Jitsu classes three days a week and plays in a softball league twice a week.
JB Eary, who works in player development for the Cleveland Indians, says, “Cordell has a mature approach to preparing himself and a great focus during his workouts. He has a solid, whole-field approach [at bat] with the ability to drive the ball to the gaps. Defensively, he is an athlete with the ability to pick up new actions and positions quickly. He has solid arm strength that would allow him to play third base without any issues, and has the athleticism and work ethic to play and/or learn other positions as well (as he has already shown). [He is] very coachable and professional [and] would be a great addition to a roster.”
