Personal
Whitney mixes up and down movement on her pitches with some lateral spin. She throws a rise ball, drop curve, back-door curve and regular curve, along with a fast ball and change-up. Her fastball also has some slight screw spin to it, giving it greater movement. Her fastball velocity is in the mid-60s (mph), while her spin pitches range from the low to mid-60s. She mixes her pitches well, but particularly likes to attack hitters on the inside.
She was primarily a pitcher in college, but she is comfortable playing first base, so she offers some versatility.
Whitney is a leader by example and is a very encouraging and supportive teammate. She is very focused on continual improvement and consistently puts in extra work to achieve that objective. She trains consistently in the off-season, as well, to gain strength and be in the best possible condition when opportunities arise. “I will jump in and help teammates when they are down physically and mentally,” she says. “I am very big on mental health in athletes and I try to help others who are dealing with these issues. I aspire to be a light for those people and use my own journey to help show them that they will make it.”
Whitney is also very interested in coaching and would be an asset to a club’s staff. She has some previous experience giving private lessons for youths and high school-aged players, as an assistant coach for a U-16 team, and as an intern at the college level “My goal is to become a softball coach and have found such a joy in the coaching I have done to this point. I am very knowledgeable about the game and can teach in a way that the players can understand and relate to.”
