Personal

Vaughn is a very competitive two-way player that plays aggressively and has a good understanding of the game.  As a hitter, he is very good at taking advantage of mistake pitches and at not chasing pitches that are out of the zone.  He has good power to the gaps – his average exit velocity is 96 miles per hour (154kph) – and he also hits for average.  He batted .359 with an .889 OPS for Mount Saint Mary’s in 2020, and he averaged .292 and .301 in two other collegiate seasons.

Vaughn also offers the bonus of versatility, having played every position but catcher and centerfield during the last four years.  He played outfield through high school and in some college summer league games, saw action at all infield spots during high school and college, and pitched until his junior year in college. His velocity on throws across the infield averages 90mph (145kph).

He is considered a good base runner.  On the mound, he primarily throws a fastball – topping out at 88mph (142kph) – changeup and curve.  “My pitching philosophy is to attack the strike zone and keep walks to a minimum.”

Vaughn adds that he is “a very vocal player that brings energy to the team. Whenever I have an opportunity to help a teammate, I do so without hesitation. I develop a relationship with each player on the team. The closer you are with a teammate, the more receptive to the information they will be.”

In addition, Vaughn’s background includes several years of coaching with various youth teams – an additional role in which he can contribute to a club.

Career Highlights

In 2018, Vaughn helped Mount St. Mary’s University make the playoffs of the Northeast Conference – a Division I league in the USA’s National Collegiate Athletic Association – for the first time in 10 years.  His leadership and performance earned him a spot on the NEC All-Conference team.

Overseas Goals

“I want to continue to develop my skills, compete at a high level and have a positive impact on any club I play for.”

Scott Thomson

Mount Saint Mary's University, Head Coach

Vaughn is a first-class young man. He always took the young kids under his wings to help them adjust as student-athletes. Vaughn did a lot of work in the local community giving lessons to a lot of little leaguers in the area. Vaughn worked extremely hard on and off the field. Vaughn's baseball IQ is very good. It was like having another coach on the field. I have had the privilege of working with Vaughn since the age of 13.

I would like to highly recommend Vaughn Parker, '21 3B from Mount St. Mary's University (MD). His greatest assets, in addition to be the ultimate teammate, is his ability to hit good pitching, his arm strength that has good carry on throws, and his baseball IQ. Vaughn is a true leader on and off the field and teammates have always admired his work ethic. He is a student of the game and is very unselfish with helping teammates. Vaughn is a middle of the order type guy that has a great understanding of the zone and uses all sides of the field with some pop. This young man is a legitimate prospect and will be an impact player in your program. As a student, after graduating with a bachelor's degree in Communication, he is now nearing a master's degree in Education. I am hoping he will come back to coach in our program once his playing days are over.
