Thomas has caught at the highest level in France and excelled despite being a primary first baseman during his college career, but he was a catcher leading up to that, so he can play both. He has had additional experience at third base and in the outfield.
He has also served as the hitting coach and bench coach for a college development program.
Nick Barese, his head coach at Merrimack College, says, “[Thomas’s] baseball IQ is off the charts, as is his work ethic and character. He has a smooth left-handed swing with power to both gaps. His arm is above-average for a first baseman, and he is one of the best defensive first basemen I’ve coached.”
Brian Griffin, associate head coach for Thomas’s team in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, says, “[He] is equipped to hit for average and power. He has a smooth left-handed swing and doesn’t try to do too much at the plate, letting his bat speed and the loft in his stroke create natural pop. He also controls the strike zone, which is an important facet to have at the next level. Each day he came to the ballpark willing to work on defense, as well.”
NCAA Division I player at Merrimack College
Named to academic all-conference team two years
CoSIDA Academic All-American (2020)
In first three seasons, batted .282, .325 and .306, with corresponding OPS figures of .899, .854 and .830
