College: Francis Marion University
Since the age of 10, I have been in love with the game of softball.Growing up in southern California, I have been exposed to great softball players and coaches. When the recruiting process started, I knew I didn’t want to stay in California, so i went to the south! Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina has been the best decision I have made! (see Bio here)
I have started every game at shortstop the last three seasons (2015-2018). I have also worked my way up to be the leadoff batter. During the 2018 season, I led the team in Batting Average (.376) and On Base Percentage (.546). Majority of my hits are singles or doubles, with a few homeruns here and there. In the field, I had 10 errors which resulted in a .938 fielding percentage.
I have a passion for softball that has intensified the closer I get to my college career ending. In June of 2017, I had an opportunity to travel to South Africa with an organization called Beyond Sports and was able to play softball and fall in love with the game and traveling. In June of 2018, the same organization went to Italy and that is where i met Chelsea and Vicky who were Americans playing for Sestese in Florence, Italy. Talking to them really made me realize that continuing my softball career after college is possible and i can’t wait to get this process started!
Summary of abilities: very agile in the field with great range and a strong arm. gets on base one way or another, whether it is a walk, HPB or a hit. puts the ball in play.
Taylor (or Johnny as we call her) is an amazing shortstop. She can make incredible plays and has a very strong arm as well. She in knowledgeable about the game and truly enjoys playing the game. She sets goals for herself and works hard to attain those goals. But she is not just a one sided player. She was also our leadoff batter this past year and hit .376 with 13 doubles, .491 OBP, she also added 3 homeruns to her count as well. She has started every game for us at shortstop since she stepped on our campus, even through pain. She knew she was an important factor for us and our success and did whatever it took for us to be able to compete. Her work ethic has gotten better with each passing year. She is a great young lady and I do hope she is given this opportunity to continue playing softball and get to see some more of the world while she is at it.
Taylor Johnson was a terrific asset to the La Jolla Country Day softball program. Taylor led by example, was a great team captain and always had a smile on her face. And she can flat-out play softball. I wish I could have a Taylor Johnson on my team every year.
