Shota is excellent at getting on base, regularly posting high on-base percentages and showing the ability to work pitchers for walks. He also has some power, with half his hits during his last two years in college going for extra bases. In the Japanese Winter League in 2022, his exit velocity ranged as high as 105 (mph).
Defensively, he is versatile. While his primary positions are second base and left field, he can also slot in at first base, third base and right field. He played all the infield positions while in junior college and played outfield in high school.
As a coach, Shota has assisted at Georgetown College, and he would be interested in helping a club’s coaching staff. “My style of coaching is to communicate well with players. That is the key to developing players.
