In my year plus of player-coaching baseball in Europe I have demonstrated an ability to not only dominate with my play, but with my coaching and leadership abilities. I’ve shown an ability to multi task not only through playing at a very high level, but also as manager for the country’s top team.
2021 Individual Accolades:
Hungarian First Division Leader in Home Runs
Hungarian First Division Leader in RBIs
Hungarian First Division Leader in Stolen Bases
Hungarian First Division Leader in Runs scored
2021 Team Accolades:
As Player-Manager reversed team’s fortunes, going from a last place finish in the 2020 regular season to a first place finish in 2021 in the Hungarian First Division.
Team lead the league in Runs scored, RBI, BB, SB, ERA, Earned Runs, WHIP, and BB allowed.
Overall not only showed an ability to play at the highest level personally, but also fostered a player friendly environment where everyone felt supported to play their best. Leading through example, the work I consistently put in and delivered results upon encouraged my players to do the same
Highlights Prior to 2021
Was player/coach for Erd in the Hungarian Baseball League in 2020
Led team in batting average (.500) and on-base percentage (.667), while posting a .531 slugging percentage
Played catcher and pitcher
Also helped coach Erd’s women’s softball team, as well as the youth team and 15-and-under team
At University of California – Merced, immediately became the team’s starting catcher and batted in the No. 3 spot in the lineup
At UC-Merced in 2016 and 2017, led the team in home runs, batting average, on-base percentage and pitching victories
As an assistant coach for the women’s softball team of the Erd club, Ryan gained valuable experience, helping with hitters’ approaches as well as defensive strategy and mechanics. He also assisted with youth-team practices, while umpiring occasionally.
Ryan says, “I have a knack for identifying where a player can improve his mechanics. I also understand how important the mental side of hitting is, and I love talking through that aspect of the game. Handling a pitching staff is something my time as a catcher helps with. In addition, I innovated my role by aggressively revamping the [college] club’s recruiting approach.”
Terry Lingenhoel, head coach of the Erd baseball club, says, “Ryan is good at building relationships. He has a strong knowledge of the game and good ideas of how to coach those ideas. He is very good with youth, both relationally and coaching.”
Nick Magyari, Ryan’s predecessor as President of the UC-Merced baseball club, says, “Ryan is an excellent player, teammate and coach. He is always looking to push himself, his teammates, and his players to train harder and improve. His baseball IQ is always improving and he makes high-quality decisions on and off the field.”
Ryan wants to further his baseball career by playing and/or coaching overseas, and he would like to leverage that into a further career in the U.S. He also would enjoy experiencing new cultures and meeting new people.
