Personal

I’m a student of the game with a lot left in the tank. I was a 2 time All-Conference & All-Region RP and a 2017 D2 All-American RP (link) in my two years in Oklahoma. I had legitimate hopes of getting drafted or signed with my sub 1.50 career college ERA after talking to scouts with the Cubs and Marlins. Neither of which happened so I coached my college team (Rogers State, OK) for the 2018 season and the 2018-2019 offseason. I was just beginning to graze low 90s and thought I was getting better as a pitcher still when my college career ended. I have never had a serious injury or missed any time *knock on wood*. I would love to use my baseball tools as a gateway for me to explore other countries and keep pitching. I have not hit since high school but play very good defense at any position, as I took bp shagging very seriously to my coaches’ chagrin. I am an upper echelon competitor. I can’t stand to do anything less than win in anything I do athletically.

As a player my strengths are my pitch sequencing, accuracy, movement, controlling the running game, and bulldog mentality. I am hungry, positive, and very poised. I’m extremely comfortable in the field at any position. I’ve always been a guy who runs around during batting practice taking real reps in CF and middle infield. I haven’t hit since the summer after sophomore year of college but I can definitely get back into it if needed. I’ve been the fastest runner on my teams as well or close to it.

I am aspiring pitching or head coach at the collegiate or professional level eventually, and love to learn as much as I can everywhere I end up. As a coach my strengths are seeing and communicating mechanical keys and cues in a pitcher’s mechanics that make them increase accuracy and movement. I have a great feel for the game. I have learned from some amazing coaches and have always led people whether it’s on the field, in the classroom, or in the workplace.

If possible, I would like to play with my friend, Sam Casinelli.

Rusty is an outstanding young man and an even better pitcher! He may be the hardest working player that I have ever had play for me in my 18 years of coaching at the 4-year collegiate level. Great makeup and high-character guy that will not disappoint you. We had several scouts here to see him in his two years with us, and the consensus was that he would eat hitter up in the minor leagues, but the lack of velocity (over 92) for a bullpen arm was the sticking point. Rusty set just about every pitching record for our program and was the first player that we have ever had that has swept every post-season award that the NCAA offers during his entire career with us. If you can find a place for him, take him!

Rusty would be a excellent addition to any team. His stuff is filthy. I honestly believe if given the chance he could make it to the major leagues because of how much he makes the ball move and the different arms slots he throws from. Even though he was our closer he pitched multiple innings anytime we needed him too. Great young man with a strong work ethic. I can not recommend a player more than I can recommend Rusty Huber.

Abilities: D2 All-American out of Rogers State University (OK)/Palomar College(CA). I have been a closer throughout college. At the beginning of my college career I was a strike thrower that pitched backwards effectively with a low 80s velocity (in video link) but I have gained velocity over the years. Physically I have always been skinny. Every year I have slowly gained weight and velocity with it. Last season I was 85-91mph from a low 3/4 arm slot on my fastball (I throw 2-seams only). I throw a variations of a cutter/slider with different breaks and speeds by design. It is my best pitch. I throw 3 different cutter/slider variations along with the 2-seam and show a change-up to LHBs as well. I am an overall athlete on the field. I field my position off the mound exceptionally well and can truly play any position on the field if needed defensively. I took reps from CF and 2B/SS during practice when I was a player and now as an assistant coach. I have always loved playing defense much more than hitting.
