Riley plays third base, shortstop and pitcher. Improved arm strength on throws across the infield, with velocity up to low 90s (mph).

As a hitter, he has continually gained strength – an extra 15 pounds within the past year – and increased exit velocity – to high 90s (mph) with metal bat and mid-90s (mph) with wood bat. His exit velocity has increased by 15mph during his collegiate career. Riley hits for both power and average.

He has good speed, which helps him both in the field and on the base paths.

Riley is a very competitive player, as well as a supportive teammate. In addition, he has high-school coaching experience and would be interested in assisting a club’s coaching staff.

Coaching Experience

2019-20 Head Coach Wakefield Nebraska Legion Baseball High School Helped kids improve their hitting and got many compliments from around the area that we had the best hitting team they have seen. My first year we got 5th in State, led with some key arms and a solid lineup and with Covid we didn't have States but this team lost a lot of key elements so we started 1-6 and ended the year 7-7. So as a rebuilding year, we were able to increase our talents from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

John Rypel

Nebraska Wesleyan, Head Coach

Riley is a multi-talented individual who is just scratching the surface of what he could be as a player. Great hands in the infield and very quick-twitch at the plate. As a defender he could play almost every position at a high level! The passion is there to be great and no one will out-work Riley Ward. Absolute dream for any coach's roster.

Paul Eaton

Wakefield Baseball, General Manager
