Personal

Peter is primarily a pitcher – either starter or reliever – but he can also play the outfield and can hit, so he adds versatility to a team.

As a pitcher, the average velocity on his fastball is from the high 80s to low-90s (mph).  Other pitches ranged from the low 80s (slider) and mid to high 70s (change-up).  Peter believes the change-up is his best pitch.

Peter is very athletic, having played soccer for many years, as well as American football, and these skills aid him in the outfield, where he displays speed and a strong throwing arm.  He played outfield much of the time in Western Australia.

Peter describes himself as one who will always “be at the field for early work such as running, medicine balls and long-toss.  I was never the loudest guy in the dugout, but I’ll get to personally know every player throughout the season.  I understand the importance of fostering strong personal relationships with my teammates. I have gotten asked to come back by both clubs I played for in Western Australia and the Czech Republic.”

Coaching

Peter would also be interested in assisting the coaching staff of a club.

He says, “As a coach, I focus on making sure that players are, first and foremost, confident in what they’re doing. That is my best asset as a coach.  I believe that as long as you stick to your routine and you know it is best for you, having that edge of confidence will be the difference.”

Overseas Goals

Peter wants to extend his playing career while experiencing new places.  He says, “It’s great to experience living in another country.  I enjoy meeting people from other cultures, and I love becoming friends with people who have a different way of life. Many of my best friends I still talk to today were people I met playing in Perth and in the Czech Republic.”

Staying in Shape

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Peter has taken the opportunity to rest his arm and get his body into the best shape possible. He is competing in weekend leagues as both a pitcher and hitter to keep his skills sharp.

Tony Schifano

San Francisco State University, Head Coach

I coached Peter Reyes at San Francisco State University in 2016 and have watched his professional career unfold since he graduated. At San Francisco State he was used in many roles on the mound. In his senior season with me, he was a closer that evolved into one of the best starting pitchers in the conference by the end of the season. Peter dominated with an overpowering fastball, a plus change-up and a hard slider. He possessed the ability to pitch with conviction and focus with each pitch. His work ethic in the weight room, his throwing program, and his focus on his mid-week bullpens led to him getting stronger as the season went on and pitching deep into ballgames. As a senior in 2016 he was the leader and mentor of a young pitching staff. He helped them to one of the top ERA's in the league and a total of 23 wins which at the time was the highest win total in 20 years.

After graduation, Peter began his professional playing career and helped the Vallejo Admirals win the Pacific Association championship in 2017 with a 4 and 1 record on the mound. His competitive nature and desire to win helped a third-place team overpower the top seed in the finals. Peter is a tremendous baseball player but an even better human being. I only coached Peter for one year at San Francisco State. I was a young coach trying to build up a program and I was blessed to have Peter as a senior helping and guiding the young players in the program. He helped set the tone early and helped build a strong culture within the program. I will forever be grateful for his leadership, his determination on the field and his friendship over the years. He wasn't given anything after graduation. He went to tryouts, earned his opportunities, competed, and helped his teams win. He will help your team win on and off the field!
