With decades of experience both playing and coaching baseball, I have always been a teacher of the game. While I’ve held head coaching positions, my true passion has always been in the role of assistant coach. This role allows me to focus on what I love most—teaching the intricacies of the game and helping players see it from new perspectives. I strive to guide players into becoming students of baseball, helping them understand not only how to improve but why certain techniques and strategies work. It’s about seeing their game evolve and their understanding deepen.
Growing up as the smallest and youngest player on the teams I played for, I learned early on that success wasn’t just about physicality. I had to focus on doing everything the right way and finding ways to outsmart bigger and stronger players. That mentality laid the foundation for my coaching philosophy: always look for ways to improve, no matter the circumstances.
As a coach, I see every player as a unique opportunity to elevate their game. My approach is to work together with the player, sharing a common goal of raising their potential beyond what they ever thought possible. Teaching them to truly understand the game is my greatest joy. It’s not just about playing better; it’s about thinking better and learning to see the game in a way that allows continual growth.
Teaching is in my blood—both of my parents were college professors, and their influence is deeply ingrained in my approach to coaching. I’ve learned that coaching isn’t just about what you know; it’s about what you can effectively teach. Many people know the game, but not everyone can translate that knowledge into understanding for others. I believe my strength lies in bridging that gap, helping players not just perform better but comprehend what they’re doing on a deeper level.
I’ve had the privilege of coaching numerous players who have gone on to the next level, from high school to college, and many who have made it to the professional ranks. Equally rewarding, though, are the players I’ve coached who have gone on to become coaches themselves. Knowing that I’ve helped them develop a true understanding of the game, enough to teach others, is one of my proudest accomplishments.
For years, I’ve dreamed of taking my coaching skills to the global stage. I’ve seen the game all across the United States and now want to share what I’ve learned with players from all over the world. The opportunity to continue teaching, coaching, and educating about baseball globally would be a dream come true. Coaching baseball is wonderful, but I believe that teaching baseball—helping others truly understand the game—is what makes a great coach.

I coached with Pete at the high school level before I got into scouting. The highest compliment I can give Pete is that he is a practice coach. What I mean by that is, everyone loves the games, the games are fun, but Pete is in his element when he is at practice, teaching the game. His true passion is player development and he takes it seriously with his preparation and willingness to learn and adapt. In my experience, he has regularly been ahead of the curve as far as how the game is taught and played. The mechanical keys that are taught to pitchers today, Pete was teaching 15 years ago. His emphasis and knowledge of baserunning is a difference maker as far as wins and losses and player development. In my line of work, I meet with a lot of college players who are prospects for the draft, on more than a few occasions I've met with a player that Pete coached when they were younger and when I mention Coach Greenwood, they inevitably light up with a positive reaction. It's very obvious he makes a lasting impact on his players both on and off the field. I would give my full endorsement to any organization looking to hire Pete.
I've been coaching for 30 plus years and have coached with and against a countless amount of coaches and Coach Pete Greenwood is by far the most knowledgeable baseball coach I've been around. His ability to know and understand the game to the nth degree is phenomenal. His ability to effectively communicate what one should do and to be able to explain the reasons why are impeccable. He's not like coaches, local or internationally, that I've witness parrot phrases that they've heard someone say and have no idea what they mean and not realize that they are totally incorrect or unscientific. His work ethic and attention to detail that he exudes in every aspect of daily life is infectious.
I would highly recommend Coach Pete Greenwood to be a professional baseball instructor in America or abroad. Fully knowing that he would be an ambassador for teaching the game to be played the right way.

Thanks so much for reaching out. I can't say enough positive things about Pete and his ability to not only coach the game of baseball, but to mentor younger folks in their transition from childhood to adulthood. That may sound a bit corny, but Pete has an incredible ability to reach into the adolescent mind (especially teenage males) and get them to listen. In 30+ years of coaching, I've never seen anyone better.
Please feel free to have anyone with questions to call me at 703-403-3476. Pete is one of the best coaches I've ever worked with. He will be an incredible asset to your program....Good Luck!!
