Personal

Nick Miceli is a rare, successful two-way college player out of Wesleyan University (NCAA DIII) and has been a catcher and utility player for the Bonn Capitals in the Baseball Bundesliga since the 2019 season. He is also the Assistant Coach for the Lithuanian National team and is greatly involved with the Portuguese Baseball Federation.

With the Bonn Capitals, Nick is a 3-time Bundesliga finalist and 2021 finalist in the Champions Cup playing as the starting catcher in the 2019 and 2020 campaigns and starting outfielder and closer in the 2021 campaign. In his most recent season with Bonn in 2021, Nick hit .345 which includes hitting .500 in the Champions Cup and .344 in the playoffs. He was a quintessential utility player in the season, moving between all outfield positions, catching, and on the mound. Pitching, Nick was used primarily as a reliever, going 2-1 while appearing in 11 games with 4 saves, 2 of which came in the Champions Cup in which he led the tournament in saves. Overall, Nick accrued 25 strikeouts in 20 innings with opposing hitters batting .223 against him.

In 2020, Nick was signed with the Metz Cometz of the French league, but returned to Bonn when the French season was cancelled. He caught every game, including playoffs and the German championship, hitting .345 in the regular season.

In his first season with Bonn in 2019, Nick started every game catching, all the way through the Champions Cup (in which he was also used as a relief pitcher) and the Bundesliga championship, hitting .256 with a .451 OBP.

From 2017-19, Nick played for the Golden Grove Dodgers in the South Australian Baseball League. Used mainly as a starting pitcher and catcher, Nick hit .348 and .360, respectively, and amassed a 2.53 and 2.96 ERA in respective seasons. On the mound, he had 168 strikeouts in 130 innings for a bottom half Dodgers team. At the plate, Nick led the team in nearly every offensive category, placing him 3rd in voting for league MVP in 2018. Additionally, Nick led the league with runners caught stealing as catcher in 2019.

In 2018, he finished his first European season with the Bremen Dockers in the Baseball Bundesliga. After 36 games in the Bundesliga, Nick hit .353 (42-119) with 24 BB, 19 runs scored, and 22 RBI’s and additionally a .484 OBP with 11 SB. He also had a .966 fielding percentage while playing every position at some point for Bremen, but mostly at catcher. As a pitcher, Nick had a 2.66 ERA with 156 K’s in 100.1 IP despite being on the second-to-last place team in the league. Opposing hitters hit only .211 against him.

In college, Nick was used primarily as a starting pitcher and catcher. Nick’s best year pitching was in 2016 as a junior where he posted a record of 6-1 with an era of 3.41 and 57 K’s in 68.2 innings work. 2016 was also his best year at the dish hitting .345 with 7 doubles and 2 triples. Nick has also shown the ability to swipe a bag with 14 SB in his senior season and 12 with Golden Grove.

Nick throws a fastball, changeup, curveball, and cutter both from over the top and sidearm, and also has been known to throw a knuckleball. His fastball is in the midupper 80’s and tops out at 90+. His pop time as a catcher sits around 1.9 and loves picking off runners from behind the dish. Defensively, Nick can play nearly every position at a high level and was often used in college in the outfield and at second base.

As a batter Nick is strong contact hitter with some power, being able to drive the ball in the gaps with occasional home runs. He has also shown an ability to bunt very well.

Nick is also a passionate coach who has been coaching baseball since 2012 in his hometown of West Hartford and was an Ice Hockey coach at his former high school Loomis Chaffee. He now serves as the 3rd base coach for the Lithuanian national team as well as the manager for one of Bonn’s Men’s teams. He is excited about the opportunity to teach the game of baseball overseas as an ambassador of the game.

Nick is fluent in Spanish, but can also speak Italian and Portuguese, is now certified with German level A2.

Any club seeking a proven two-way player who is also passionate about coaching should reach out to Nick for an interview as he most definitely brings a lot of value to the table for any club looking to improve on multiple levels.
