Nick Miceli is a rare, successful two-way college player out of Wesleyan University (NCAA DIII) and has been a catcher and utility player for the Bonn Capitals in the Baseball Bundesliga since the 2019 season. He is also the Assistant Coach for the Lithuanian National team and is involved with the Portuguese Baseball Federation, having won the Portuguese Cup with the Almada White Sharks in 2021.
With the Bonn Capitals, Nick is a 3-time Bundesliga finalist and 2022 Bundesliga Champion. He and the Bonn Capitals also placed 2nd in the 2021 European Champions Cup and 3rd in 2022. In his most recent season with Bonn in 2022, Nick played every outfield position, caught, and was used on the mound in relief. He hit .282 overall and .357 in the Champions Cup (5-14 with a HR and 5 walks). He was also 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in the tournament. In the Bundesliga regular season, he held a 0.59 ERA (15.1 IP) going 1-0 with 2 saves, and recorded a 0.00 ERA in the playoffs (8.1 IP) with a 2-0 record, including getting the win for the decisive 4th game of the German Championship. In 2021, he hit .345 which included hitting .500 in the Champions Cup and .344 in the playoffs. Also in that season, Nick was used primarily as a reliever, going 2-1 appearing in 11 games with 4 saves, 2 of which came in the Champions Cup in which he led the tournament in saves.
From 2017-19, Nick played for the Golden Grove Dodgers in the South Australian Baseball League. Used mainly as a starting pitcher and catcher, Nick hit .348 and .360, respectively, and amassed a 2.53 and 2.96 ERA in respective seasons. On the mound, he had 168 strikeouts in 130 innings for a bottom half Dodgers team. At the plate, Nick led the team in nearly every offensive category, placing him 3rd in voting for league MVP in 2018. Additionally, Nick led the league with runners caught stealing as catcher in 2019.
In 2018, he finished his first European season with the Bremen Dockers in the Baseball Bundesliga. After 36 games in the Bundesliga, Nick hit .353 (42-119) with 24 BB, 19 runs scored, and 22 RBI’s and additionally a .484 OBP with 11 SB. He also had a .966 fielding percentage while playing every position at some point for Bremen, but mostly at catcher. As a pitcher, Nick had a 2.66 ERA with 156 K’s in 100.1 IP despite being on the second-to-last place team in the league. Opposing hitters hit only .211 against him. In this season, Nick helped the Dockers avoid relegation for the first time in the club’s history.
In college, Nick was used primarily as a starting pitcher and catcher. Nick’s best year pitching was in 2016 as a junior where he posted a record of 6-1 with an era of 3.41 and 57 K’s in 68.2 innings work. 2016 was also his best year at the dish hitting .345 with 7 doubles and 2 triples. Nick has also shown the ability to swipe a bag with 14 SB in his senior season. He also finished his college career as the all-time saves leaders.
Nick throws a fastball, changeup, and slurve. His fastball is in the mid–upper 80’s and tops out at 90+. His pop time as a catcher sits around 1.9. Defensively, Nick can play nearly every position at a high level, playing every position in the field in college and overseas. As a batter Nick, is strong contact hitter with some power, being able to drive the ball in the gaps with some home run power at times.
Nick is also a passionate coach who has been coaching baseball since 2012 in his hometown of West Hartford and was an Ice Hockey coach at his former high school Loomis Chaffee. He now serves as the 3rd base coach for the Lithuanian national team as well as the manager for one of the senior teams in Bonn. He is excited about the opportunity to teach the game of baseball overseas.
Nick is fluent in Spanish, but can also speak German, some Italian and some Portuguese.
