Personal

Most people call me Moose! I am a power-hitting catcher. I can drive the ball to all fields with authority. My pop time is 1.96. My velo to 2nd base from behind the plate has been clocked at 86mph. As a catcher, I pride myself in my receiving. I train it daily, and I believe quality receiving is where a catcher can have the greatest impact on a game.

I had some bad breaks in my college career. My stats from college are unimpressive, but that is the result of some unfortunate injuries/circumstances. I have several college coaches I played for who can vouch for my playing ability. Overcoming many difficulties in my collegiate baseball career such as UCL, knee, and back injuries and the yips has helped mold me into the player and the man I am today. Perseverance and resilience define my career. I want to play at the highest level my ability will allow me to play at and have no regrets when I hang my cleats up. Whatever team I play for will get my very best effort on and off the field. I have a great passion for this game and am extremely grateful to overseas baseball for the extension of my career.

On top of catching, I am also a quality first baseman. I played first base every summer in college, and I have much experience at first base during my time with the Metrostars in Austria.

As a catcher, I naturally fall into a leadership role on the team. I know that the rest of the team will feed off the energy I bring, so I try to keep my composure at all times. I am an even-keel presence in the dugout. I try to always bring positive energy to the dugout no matter the situation.

I am the kind of guy that will spend most of his free time at the field working on his craft. I am almost always willing to go in early before practice or stay late after practice to get extra work in. I love the grind of a baseball season.
I want to coach college baseball when I finish my playing career, so I love talking baseball and working on mechanics with teammates. I feel like doing that helps me prepare for my future career in coaching. While in Austria last season, I regularly worked with one of the young catchers in our club. I greatly enjoyed watching him get better as we worked. It was the experience of coaching that young catcher and the rest of the 2nd league team that confirmed in my mind that coaching is the right career for me.

Career highlights

I was selected as the 2024 Austrian Baseball League Gold Glove catcher.

2023 Vienna Metrostars Rookie of the Year. Finished the 2023 season in the Austrian Bundesliga with a batting average of .292, an OBP of .505, and an OPS of 1.043. With the Metrostars, I was able to compete for an Austrian Bundesliga championship. During the playoffs, I went 10 for 29 (.345) with a .486 OBP, .828 SLG, and a 1.314 OPS.

While playing at Belhaven University, I was selected as a team captain for my final two seasons.

To go along with my experience in Austria, I also have experience playing in the Dominican Republic with a collegiate summer team.

Coaching

I have a great passion for the game and drive to compete and win. I want to coach as a career when I retire from playing. I believe every player is unique. Not everyone’s body and mind work the same. Each player must find a system that works for himself and train/develop that daily. Being a coach is about learning how your players’ bodies and minds work and assisting them in the development of both their physical and mental skills. There are some guiding principles to all mechanics in baseball, but for the most part, succeeding is about feeling confident in what you are doing. Playing with confidence and conviction is the key that many underperforming players are missing. That is why I like to train the mental side of the game as much as I like to train the physical side of the game.

Overseas Goals

I love baseball, I love traveling, and I love competing. Baseball overseas allowed me to do all three. Playing in Vienna the past two seasons has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Being immersed in a new culture with new people while also being able to play the game I love is like living a dream. Baseball has given me so much in life, and I want to be able to give back. Playing overseas allows me to be an ambassador for the game all across the globe.

After completing the 2024 season, I headed back to the United States to work and train for the 2025 season. I am currently a private instructor at a local baseball facility at home where I also train with other college and professional players. I am also now on staff as an assistant coach for my local high school baseball team. I am in charge of catching and hitting development. I will coach that team until it is time for me to leave for the 2025 season.

Nathan was a very positive addition to our roster last year. He is a great "team guy" who does his best to make every one of his teammates better. Moose not only excelled defensively in his primary position (C) but he was also willing to step up and play wherever we needed him. Where he really excelled was in the way he carried himself off the field to support the club. He was willing to add youth and lower div senior team coaching duties to his schedule and put in extra time to help younger players before and after regular training times. He acclimated very well to life in Europe and became a valuable member of the club within days of his arrival. I have no reservations in recommending Nathan as an import player in Europe.

I have had the opportunity to coach Nathan “Moose” Weatherly for 3 and a half years now specifically in the private training environment. I have also had the privilege of coaching alongside him at baseball camps. Over time, it has been an absolute pleasure working with Nathan, not just as an athlete but as a person as well. Nathan is one of the most genuine players in this game. He has shown a heart for both playing and developing his craft and also helping others excel at this game as well. He takes genuine joy in helping people of all ages develop their baseball abilities. I have watched Nathan grow tremendously as a player and as a coach since we met. He truly cares about the people around him not just as ballplayers, but also as people.

Nathan and I have spent the majority of our time developing his craft with his catching. First, I can state he has gone above and beyond in all the areas of the little things when it comes to catching. I have watched him lead pitching staffs, assist in running defenses and positioning, and play big roles in game planning. As far as throwing goes, Nathan has made big strides since we first met. He has gained roughly 5mph on his average throws and continues to clean up the details of his arm route when it comes to throwing runners out. He takes full ownership in his daily routine when it comes to throwing and how he can prepare his arm daily to get it better to get rid of the ball quicker and maximize all throwing velocity.

In the area of blocking, I can say with full confidence this is an area since Day 1, “Moose” has excelled in and continues to prove to be one of the better blockers I have ever worked with. Blocking will be an area that he will be able to save runs for on any team he may play for. Moose understands what setups will put him in the best position to succeed in regards to the pitcher, game situation, and where he can excel to put himself in a spot to block even the toughest of misfires from a pitcher.

Finally, in regards to the area of receiving, Nathan excels in this area the most more than even most MILB guys I have worked with and even some big leaguers. I truly believe Nathan is going to be one of the guys that brings the receiving trends in the United States that have proven to be successful at the big league level overseas and be one of the pioneers to not only show off and do it and add an immense value to any organization that signs him and probably lead the receiving charts for that league, but also have the ability to teach it from the youth level all the way through to the professional level.

Moose and I have also spent some time in the offensive area where I have seen him demonstrate hitting moves that allow for him to not only show off the plus pop that he has but adjustability to hit at any level against any sort of arm slot, velocity, movement, or craftiness a pitcher may show. I have seen him demonstrate the ability to hit in the 2-5 hole and have the ability to stay in the DH spot on the days he is not catching. The offensive and defensive value that he brings to the table as a catcher and hitter are two areas that are a can not miss for any organization interested in making him a part of their selected squad.

Nathan is one of the hardest working kids I have ever coached. He approaches the game with a positive attitude and brings energy and life to any dugout he is a part of. Nathan is also a natural-born leader, and he is one of the most selfless individuals I have ever met. He is always the first guy to volunteer when the team needs help, and his selfless style of leadership is contagious within a clubhouse. In short - "Moose" will be the hardest working guy and best teammate on whatever team is lucky enough to have him on board!
