Being in baseball for over 15 years, you experience all the highs and lows baseball has to offer. One thing most people can not coach or teach is a love for adversity and how to use it to your advantage. Understanding that failure is a large part of baseball even for the most successful players is so important. I truly believe one of my best qualities on the field is knowing how to handle adversity and making adjustments to place myself in positions to succeed.

As a player who always cared more about the relationships than stats, I love helping my teammates around me become better men and players. Whether that means staying after practice to work on areas of weakness or leading a small group Bible study, these types of relationships are what make playing the game so much fun and I consider it a privilege to lead!

How I see myself as a player:

  • Gap-to-gap Hitter
  • Very good fielding first baseman
  • Ability to consistently drive ball with power to all fields
  • Above average speed for a first baseman
  • Great ability to track ball in outfield
  • High ability and drive to compete every pitch

Overseas Goals:

  • Extend my career a little longer before hanging them up
  • Use overseas as a stepping stone into a professional league in the U.S.
  • Experience new cultures and meet new people
  • Use my knowledge and experience to help grow the game globally

Church Leader/Mentor

I have known Mike for a few years now. At first he was somewhat reserved and not knowing who he was. Since we started going through the word of God together I have seen this reserved boy turn into a strong warrior and mighty man of God. To speak with out saying this would do him a disservice; anything I gave him to do he was all in. Homework check, memorization check, internal changes check. I assigned him some hard tasks he was weary of them but he would do them and put his whole heart into it. I don’t really know how this makes him a great baseball player, but I know it makes him a great man and someone who will always put his whole heart into what he does. I am proud to call this man my friend.

One thing I have learned by playing sports is the most talented people were not always the best players. The ones who had a drive to be better, and humble heart were. It allowed them see flaws in themselves that no one else would, and they would work tirelessly at correcting the flaws. This is what makes a great person, teammate, and leader. This unfortunately is an unteachable trait, they have to be born with it. Because of that , they are the exact players that I would seek out, these are the ones I would gravitate towards. Not only would they be the first ones there and the last to leave, but they would always be willing to grow another along with them. They understand by teaching and leading it doesn’t hurt themselves, but ultimately raises the bar for the entire team. Mike is one of these people. He is one that will always seek to improve himself as well as those around him. This alone, without even understanding his great talent for the game, would make him a player that would be an invaluable asset to any team.

Mike was my college roommate for our freshman year. I am grateful for all that he has done for me when he helped me with my transition into a new cultural environment. I am sure that he will be able to make this transition himself and become an active member of any team or community.

The way I remember Mike from a baseball field is as a hard worker and a competitor. As a freshman, he quickly became one of our biggest offensive threats. Started the whole year at the first base while taking pride in his defense.
