Personal

Played at the highest level growing up, including at the University level in Ontario. Had opportunities to play in the United States at NAIA schools or D2 NCAA schools but chose to stay close to home for other reasons.

DUAL position player including pitcher and utility such as corner outfield and infield. Fundamentally sound player from all aspects. Succeeds due to athleticism which has allowed for position versatility. Style as a pitcher is a strike thrower that often changes speeds and attacks hitters. Lead the OUA in strikeouts in 2015 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. Offensive approach is gritty. Uses the whole field, rarely strike out and have gap to gap power to compliment my consistency in terms of batting average. Posted a .400 BA in 2015 and a .390 BA in 2016. Hit for a .380 BA in Toronto’s highest level senior league for the Etobicoke Rangers in 2017. Lastly, defensively relies on athleticism, versatility, and true baseball smarts. Not flashy but a hard worker. Was an OUA league all-star in University as a starting pitcher and then as an outfielder the following year

In the most recent summer, the balance of work and baseball prevented me from playing at my full potential.

True team player that is extremely competitive and has a natural desire to win and compete every game. Have always been around the game including working at the biggest baseball store in Canada for 4-5 years. Also coached and helped develop youth players in the community since 2012. This includes being the pitching coach for the Etobicoke Rangers AAA level 15u team for 2019.

Focuses on mental toughness which has lead to my persistent training off the field. Loves and respects the game and continues to want to get better every season.

Etobicoke Rangers, Starting Pitcher and Pitching Coach

If you are looking for people with character, work ethic and with a background in baseball, Michael fits that bill perfectly. Mike is a pitcher, by trade, but is willing and has the ability to play almost every position on the field in a pinch. I believe that Michael has the ability to excel as a starting pitcher because of his ability to throw 3 pitches for strikes. His velocity is likely a little below average (low 80s) but has the ability to locate and get swings and misses with all of his pitches. I think Michael is the perfect fit for what you are looking for. He is the type of guy that will run through a wall to make plays for his team. I’m sure he would be a welcomed edition to any team looking to add players for the upcoming season.

I would definitely support and recommend Michael Asta in working, coaching playing for your organization. He is an Exemplary young man, extremely talented and knowledgeable in the sport and very good at building relationships and communicating. He would be an ideal candidate to work with young people as he is positive, understanding, compassionate and motivating. I know Michael through my role coaching Baseball for York University, Michael originally joined us as a pitcher and was a standout player in the league in that respect. Michael had an outstanding record and always gave our team an opportunity to win. Michael regular threw complete games, racked up strikeouts and held opponents to minimal runs. As seasons progressed, Michael also expressed interest in playing defensive positions and hitting. Michael had the talent to play any position and he immediately demonstrated that it was essential that we keep his bat in the lineup. As a valuable pitcher who threw a lot we wanted to protect his arm and limit potential for injury so we initially tried to keep Michael to playing First base or Left field on days that he didn't pitch, but in his final two years with the team, admittedly the team was not very strong and having Michael play in key defensive positions became key to any success that the team would have. Michael was up for the task, genuinely accepting of any role the coaching staff asked him to take on and understanding when it we needed him to take a break or give his teammates opportunities. I could not ask for a better athlete or person to coach. Michael is also very independent and self driven. He really did not require much instruction as he developed routines for himself to stay in shape injury free, and further refine his skills. At the same time, Michael was very coach-able, open to instruction direction and caught onto new skills easily. Michael was regularly nominated for pitching awards and in his last season, he was not only nominated for best pitcher but overall league MVP because of his defensive versatility and offensive production. It was this type of work ethic and determination that made Michael a leader on the team, he led by example and younger players would follow his lead because they could see the results that he was getting. Michael is a fantastic teammate. He is not a in your face type leader, but by being "one of the guys" and sincerely caring about his team mates, celebrating everyone's successes and knowing how to encourage and support some one who might be down, he is the kind of guy who will fit in with any team and make those around him better. Michael is compassionate and inclusive and speaks up when he feels someone is not being treated fairly or given a fair chance. I have no reservation recommending Michael to your program and wish him the best in all his future endeavors. I know Michael is kind, positive and optimistic young man who will contribute to and experience success with any path he chooses to follow, not to mention he his a fantastic baseball player!

Michael played for me for many seasons and has always excelled as both a pitcher and fielder. He is versatile and not only is a great pitcher but can play both infield and outfield at a high level and is one of the most well rounded players I have had the pleasure to coach. Michael has significant baseball knowledge and was capable of making adjustments both throughout the season and mid-game to help give the team the best chance to win. He is also a great teammate who not only would make adjustments to his own mechanics but was always watching teammates making suggestions to help improve their game often with great results. This mind for the game along with his experience playing has lead to success as a coach from a young age. After starting at lower levels he has worked his way up to now be coaching high level baseball. Over the years I got to know Michael very well as a player and person and can not think of a better mentor for the young players. Michael has a very high compete level and thrives in pressure situations. He always wanted the ball in his hand in the most important situations and would do whatever it took to succeed. I believe Michael would be a great fit as either a player or coach and any team would be lucky to have him as part of their organization.
