Personal

Right-handed relief pitcher that throws submarine. Rones pitches to contact and generate a lot of weak ground balls and pop-ups I can pitch in back-to-back games and both games of a double header. PITCHES — Sinker: 79-82mph 16-24″ horizontal movement and -3″ vertical movement, Slider: 73-76mph -6-9″ horizontal movement and 4-8″ vertical movement, Change up: 67-73mph 20-24″ horizontal movement and -8-12″ vertical movement

I play 2nd, 1st and OF secondarily for my amateur summer team. I played 10 defensive innings and got 3 at-bats including 1 hit. I coach infield defensive work for a youth club baseball team.

I consider myself everybody’s favorite player-coach. Off of the field I want to hangout and connect with my teammates. The best way to build trust in a team is by getting to know your teammates off of the field. Around the clubhouse and facilities, I am the first one in and the last one out. I am always willing to help my teammates get in extra reps and talk through mechanics, approach and any other part of the game. I lead by mixing example and vocal leadership. A good leader needs to be able to follow his own standard.

Career highlights

Conference scholar athlete for 2020 and 2021 seasons, unofficial team captain. Collegiate career FIP: 1.64

Coaching

While I am a young pitching coach, I bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the table. My philosophy is that everybody’s body moves best specific to itself. My role is to assist pitchers with feeling out their body. Additionally I have a well of knowledge when it comes to pitch grips and different ways to spin the ball. Experientially, I have thrown from many arm slots and many different pitch types over the course of my career. My roles at Complete Athlete and Augsburg University involve using data to evaluate and redesign pitches.

Overseas Goals

I want to continue my playing career overseas and serve as an ambassador to the sport. My love for the game of baseball is deep and endless. I looked up to many professional athletes as a kid and I hope that some day I can be the kind of person kids and look up to.

I also have a grandmother from German and a grandfather from Austria.

Matty is a great kid who's shown a lot of maturity over the years. He has a passion for baseball and a desire to help others. He is a determined competitor that brings his full self to the playing field. Matty understands that relationships are as meaningful as on-the-field success. However, he's not afraid to push and encourage others to be better than they think they can be.

He provides a high baseball IQ in the way he teaches and talks about the game. He’s adaptable to whatever environment he’s in and makes the most of the opportunities he earns. Matty relates really well to the players, and communicates exceptionally well with the coaching staff with what we are trying to accomplish that day.
