Testimonials

Jim Gonzalez

Chicago Cubs, Minor League Manager

I've had the pleasure of being a part of Markus's growth within the baseball world for many years. Throughout those years I've seen him become not only an elite defensive catcher with a high IQ for the game and an excellent ability to work with a pitching staff, but also a quality young man in terms of his character. Behind the plate his ability to steal strikes for his pitchers is well above average, and has a quick, consistent catch and release. Coachable and respectable, any team that signs Markus will be ecstatic that they did so. He's obsessed with what he does and you won't find anyone that will work harder for your organization. If there is anything else you need to know, feel free to reach out.

Scott Heath

University of Maine, Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach

I have been lucky enough to have the privilege to coach Markus during his last two seasons at Mitchell College. Markus would always go above and beyond what was expected of him and his commitment to success is second to none. Over the two years, I saw Markus develop physically, as well as mature mentally. He was not only the most respected player in the locker room because of his play but also as a leader. Markus is someone who loves to compete. His defensive ability rivals anyone I have seen or coached. There wasn’t a single game where he wasn’t the best catcher on the field. His receiving ability and glove work allow him to make borderline pitches, strikes. His hip mobility and core strength allows him to get into positions that most people can’t get to. The way he receives, blocks, throws, footwork, and release are all +. His best trait, however, is the ability to communicate and run the pitching staff. His knowledge of hitting, situational baseball, and understanding the pitcher's strengths allow him to call a great game. Markus plays with an extremely high motor, is extremely coachable, and ready to learn. Markus is ready both physically and mentally for professional baseball.

Travis Beausoleil

Mitchell College, Head Coach

Markus is not only the best defensive catcher I have had in my time at Mitchell. He has one of the highest baseball IQs of any guys I have had the opportunity to coach. His work ethic is tremendous and was a catalyst for us over the past four years in helping us attain the best winning percentage in New England. Markus spent his freshman summer as our bullpen catcher for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League. On our roster that year we had Gunner Troutwine (Wichita State) Jordan Romero (LSU) and Hagen Owenby (ETSU) and Markus was by far/hands down the best defensive catcher we had. His ability to receive at the top level is unparalleled, he is consistently a 1.9-2.0 pop and works very hard in keeping balls in front of him.

All of these baseball attributes are dwarfed in comparison to his character and leadership. Markus is a strong-minded individual that has worked to gain the respect of every teammate he has had and I have been working tirelessly to create a position for him here at Mitchell so I can keep his as an assistant coach. Any team, foreign or domestic, would benefit from his playing ability and knowledge of the game. But any program would without question benefit from his character, integrity, and resoluteness.
