Mark Weidemaier just finished back-to-back seasons (2022, 2023) in the Mexican League as a field manager after two seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization serving as a bench coach for long-time coaching partner, Matt Williams.
Mark Weidemaier (baseball ref.) served as an assistant coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes baseball team while he attended Ohio State University where he received his masters degree in Sports Administration and Management. Post graduation Mark spent two years in a variety of coaching and administrative roles at the college baseball level before signing on with the Kansas City Royals as a minor league coach. This was the beginning of a series of coaching, scouting and administrative roles within professional baseball that has spanned more than three decades, including roles the Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Washington Nationals and most recently, the Cincinnati Reds.
Mark’s biggest achievement to-date was suiting up in an MLB uniform for the Washington Nationals from 2013-2015 as the Defensive Coordinator/Advance Coach for the Nationals manager Matt Williams. Matt had much praise for Mark in this article, outlining his reasoning from bringing him on board with the Nationals:
“I like his knowledge. For the last 18 years, certainly, he’s got experience on the field, but for the last 18, he’s looked at the game from a different view than we’ve looked at it. So he’s gotten a chance to sit up there and look and really take a hard look at what makes teams successful and what doesn’t. And the reason I asked him to come (to the Nationals) was I think his knowledge of scouting and his knowledge of the intricacies of the game is great. Certainly the defensive part of it, I’ve worked with him over the last three years in Arizona on the defensive part of it, especially the infield play. He has a fantastic advance scouting pedigree that comes along with him.” – Matt Williams
Mark is also no stranger to coaching overseas and spent past years as the Scouting Coordinator and Coach for the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO). He also has experience coaching in winter leagues in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela, making full use of his fluency in Spanish. Mark is now looking to continue with his career overseas and is open to coaching opportunities in any professional league, possibly a top team in Germany or the Czech Republic. He is open to a winter stunt Australia or other south hemisphere countries. He is also available to run coaches clinics or any other instructional opportunity that presents itself.
