I do play outfield in college as well. I am looking at being a starter this year, as well as being a closer for the staff. I can hit and know about approach, hitting mechanics, and I am a good defender in the outfield.

I am a lead by example guy. I will always stick to my process, I am not the teammate to be way up in energy or way down. I am very level headed no matter the results on the field. I will be able to make sure guys can rely on me to bring the energy and focus back to the game. I am a teammate that guys can go to if they need help with mental or physical struggles. I am a guy that does not take days for granted, so I will always be in a good mood.

Career highlights

My greatest individual accomplishment on the field is being nominated for all-conference in high school, and being named as a lifting/fitness captain for my college team. My biggest team accomplishment would be making playoffs after having multiple losing seasons in a row.

Coaching

I have experience coaching youth players and knowing how they operate. I have learned a lot from coaching youth from attention spans to how they learn new techniques.

Overseas GoalsĀ

I would love to use this as an opportunity to further my career in baseball; however, my main goal would be to interact with as many new people and cultures as possible to gain life experience.

I am currently a senior at Vassar College. I am doing a winter program with a local facility and I am preparing for this upcoming season.

Tad Skelley

Vassar College, Head Coach

I was hired on July 15th so I've only had the fall with him. He's a very hard worker, he's quiet (which is nice!), he is very knowledgeable especially when it comes to pitching, he's a hard thrower and we are working to really transition him from a thrower to a pitcher - he will absolutely be able to get it up to 94, he's a great teammate and leader.

Luke is very easy going and as a coach I would consider him low maintenance. He's always doing the things he needs to do to be successful. This year he will start in the OF and likely be a high leverage reliever. He's athletic and strong so we want to maximize his strengths.

Luke Dawson

Advanced Therapy and Performance, Head Throwing Coordinator

This summer I had the pleasure of working with Luke Barrientos for the first time at Advanced Therapy and Performance in Connecticut. Before the summer Luke and I spoke on the phone about his goals for the summer and what it would take to reach those goals. The two main goals we identified were to become more consistent with his command and to throw 95mph on the mound. Throughout the summer, Luke was extremely consistent with his training, coming in 3-4 times per week to the facility to throw on top of his own training and working a summer internship. With his hard work throughout the summer, Luke greatly improved command of all his pitches, leading to a lot of success in live at-bat situations at the facility and into his fall season at college and is also within 1mph of 95mph. Having trained and played alongside dozens of MLB and minor league players myself, I can say with confidence that Luke's pitches can play at the highest level of the game and the sky's the limit for him in his career. Luke is an extremely gifted athlete but it is his ability to learn and bring attention to detail in his training that has allowed him to make so much progress in his career. His desire to learn and improve as well as his openness to sharing ideas with younger athletes at the facility made him a wonderful addition to our community.
