Kiana has experience at two NCAA Division I universities in the U.S. She has good power at the plate – 30 percent of her hits as a collegian were for extra bases – but can also bunt for a hit or put down a sacrifice.

She was originally recruited to Texas Tech University as a catcher, though her primary position in high school and on travel teams was shortstop. She later got in a good amount of time at second base and shortstop, though. At Rutgers, she caught and played second base.

She has a good throwing arm, with a 1.7 pop time to second base and throws in the low 70s (mph) from her infield positions.

Kiana says she leads “by example. While I’m usually not the most vocal person on the field, I pride myself on keeping a positive energy and presence. I am very passionate about the game, and I enjoy learning and teaching with those around me. I like to keep things light and fun while also being focused once I hit the field.”

Kiana also has quite a bit of coaching experience with youth teams, various softball camps and a high school-level travel team.

Career highlights

  • Had 110 hits, including 10 home runs, scored 47 runs and tallied 69 RBIs in collegiate career
  • Appeared in and started 41 games at shortstop in 2021
  • Collected 22 hits, including six doubles, along with seven runs scored in 2021
  • 2x Team Captain (2020, 2021)
  • Academic All-Big Ten (2021)

Overseas Goals

Kiana wants to take her career overseas and play at higher levels. Additionally, she enjoys traveling and adapting to/learning about new environments. She says, “With an overseas opportunity, I will be able to live in new places and experience new cultures while playing softball.”

Texas Peppers Head Coach

I have known Kiana since she was in 5th grade and started playing for my tournament ball program the Texas Peppers Gold out of Houston, TX.

I have watched her grow from a young player to a polished lady that showed servant leadership on and off the field. As a coach you hope your players become “player coaches” on the field. Leading the team in the right direction and promoting the organizations culture. Kiana is all of that and more.

Her personality is such that others will follow her. That can be a dangerous trait if the player isn’t someone going in the same direction as the organization’s mission. Kiana was willing to ask questions when she needed clarification on our mission as coaches, and always followed what we needed to create a positive environment for our young ladies.

Of course Kiana had her struggles as a teenager coming into her own. No one makes it through the terrible teenage years without adversity. But as she made mistakes she learned and grew from them. She owned her failures, was accountable, and improved as a person each time.

I believe that Kiana can play and coach at the highest level. She is passionate about softball, high of character, and loves to learn. Her skill set on the ball field is without question, her playing career can attest to that. But her love of the game and her belief in what the game can do to grow young ladies in to powerful women is what I admire about her most.

I have been coaching for 15 years. I’m a 6A High School head coach. I have helped hundreds of young ladies pursue their dream of playing college softball at all levels from D1-JUCO. I myself was a D1 softball player. All of this is to say, I cannot recommend Kiana Workman enough for this opportunity.

Anyone that gets the opportunity to work with her will be happy they did. She is a player and person that is truly unforgettable on and off the ball field.
