Personal

Kate is a power hitter who can draw walks, as well. She was also a leadoff hitter the last couple of years in college, as she tends to use the whole field when hitting and can make it to first base in 2.9 seconds and from home-to-home in just over 11 seconds.

She played infield in high school and catcher her freshman year in college. Since then, she has been primarily a left fielder but has also played some in center field.

Additionally, she has served as a private coach to youths, so she could assist the coaching staff of a club. She says, “I love to compete and am always smiling and positive during the game. I lead by example but will speak up when needed. I love helping younger players develop and spend lots of extra time working with them. I am always giving 110% and expect people to keep up with my work ethic. I am here to make myself and the team better.”

Loren Messick LaPorte, Kate’s head coach in college at James Madison University, says, “Not only is [Kate] a phenomenal player, but she is a great human being. I wish we had a whole team of Kate Gordons! She is respected by her teammates and is the one that everyone goes to for advice and support. She loves the game, knows the game, and does everything she can to make sure she is ready. Kate will go down as not only being one of the best players here, but also one of the best leaders to ever come through the program.”

Christian Carter, the strength and conditioning coach at James Madison, adds, “Kate is the most mature, hardworking, intelligent, respectful, and dedicated woman I’ve coached in eight years here. You would be hard pressed to find another woman that has accomplished what she has on and off the field – completed her master’s degree, owned her own home, earned her real estate license and has worked as a real estate agent . . . all while performing at an All-American level on the field. She will make an ideal professional for any club she plays for.”

Alan Knight

High School, Head Coach

Kate is a fine young lady with great character. She is a hard worker and has a good softball IQ. I coached Kate in high school for 4 years at the varsity level. Played second base as a freshman, moved her to shortstop the next 3 years. She leadoff for us and stole bases and hit home runs. Kate continually stayed after practice to take extra ground balls to improve her defense. She set a great example for our younger players. She would be a great addition.

Christian Carter

James Madison University, Strength & Conditioning Coach

Kate Gordon is the most mature, hardworking, intelligent, respectful, and dedicated woman I’ve coached in eight years at JMU. I think you’d be hard pressed to find another woman that has accomplished what she has on and off the field. Completing her Master’s degree, owns her own home, earned her real estate license, works as a realtor, all while performing at an All-American level on the field. She will make an ideal professional for any club she plays for, no doubt in my mind.

Loren Messick LaPorte

James Madison University, Coach

Not only is she a phenomenal player, but she is a great human being that would do anything for anybody. I truly wish we had a whole team of Kate Gordon’s! She is respected by her teammates and is the one that everyone goes to for advice and support. She loves the game, knows the game, and does everything she can to make sure she is ready for the game. She works hard in the weight room, does a ton of extra reps on her own, and is always prepared from a scouting standpoint for the opponent. Kate will go down as not only being one of the best players here, but also one of the best leaders to ever come through the program. She will be missed a great deal and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her in the sport!
