As a Division I baseball player at Harvard, I competed against some of the premier teams in American college baseball; highlights include multi-hit games against #7 ranked University of Arizona and #19 ranked Stetson University. As the starting catcher my senior year, I helped get three of our starting pitchers drafted, including current Major League Baseball players Brent Suter (Milwaukee Brewers) and Tanner Anderson (Oakland Athletics).
I am primarily a catcher, and defense is my specialty. I take great pride in excelling at receiving, blocking, throwing, calling games, and handling pitching staffs.

One of the finest and talented young men I have ever coached!
Player testimonial: Jon was one of the best players I have coached at Belmont High School. His work ethic was second to none and he is the best defensive catcher I have seen. He started every game for all four years, not many freshman play varsity baseball in High School, especially at the catchers position. Jon was a physical presence on the field and quickly shut down a run game of the opponents. Simply put, no one tried to steal on us as he had a cannon of an arm. He possessed an extremely high baseball IQ and controlled the game behind the dish as our field general. He was an outstanding hitter who always worked the count to his advantage and was a top hitter in the league. A captain, 2 time All League Player, 3 time Defensive player of the year who played his college baseball at Division 1 Harvard. He was the back bone for us in winning the Division 2 North Championship his junior year. Character testimonial: Jon Smart is one of the highest quality young men you will ever encounter! Jon was a leader and role model on and off the field. He was an outstanding student who was passionate about baseball and compassionate for others. He was always encouraging his teammates and the younger players in the program to take care of business in the classroom and work their hardest. He was the ultimate team player and self-second kind of person. He spearheaded our baseball clinics every year where he taught the fundamentals and sportsmanship of the game to elementary aged kids and did so with a smile on his face. Jon is a kind, caring and engaging young man who had a major impact on the success of our program. I have three teen age boys now who Jon was so good to when they were younger, they still ask “How is Smarty doing dad”? I am delighted we have remained friends over the years.
