Personal

John offers versatility.  Though he is primarily an outfielder, he can also play first base.  He is more of a line-drive hitter with good backspin and uses the opposite side of the field well.  Defensively, he has very good speed and an above-average arm, with very good ability to track down balls in the outfield.  John describes himself as one who has “good energy and is open to helping teammates,” however necessary.  “I am always in getting extra work before and after practices.”  Since the end of his most recent season, John has been regularly training and working in the batting cage.  He’s also been long-tossing to keep his arm strong.

Kallen Miyataki

UH Hilo Head Coach

John has been with UH Hilo for the past three years. He has matured into a responsible, hardworking player with integrity. On the field, offensively, John will give you gap to gap power. He is more of a free swinger who can be an excellent contact hitter if he chooses. He batted in the 5 spot for us and was expected to produce runs, however, a foot injury slowed him down considerably. When he fully recovered John played to his potential. He is of average speed in the outfield and has an average arm. He is a worker and will put in the time. He has a great feel for the game and will be a great addition to any team. As for character, he is a great person, easy to get along with and will adapt to any environment. He will adjust and make the best of things.
