Jeff Hunt is a 6’3” left handed hitting utility player who has experience playing everywhere on the field. In fact in Germany in 2017 he was utilized mostly at third base and catcher but also spent time playing shortstop, second base and even pitched 2 innings allowing no runs or walks and while striking out 5.
In 2009 at the age of 18, Jeff was drafted by the LA Dodgers where he spent four years with the organization before being released. In 2013 he enrolled at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario where he also continued to play baseball while studying. During the summers Jeff played in the highly competitive Intercounty Baseball League based in Ontario, a semi-pro league which features some of Canada’s top talent along with a number import professional players.
In 2017 Jeff took his career overseas for the first time to play with the Mainz Athletics, the 2016 champions of the German Bundesliga.
Throughout his career Jeff has shown the ability to hit for average with pop complimented by above average speed on the base paths. A versatile player who can “play any position to some extent”, Jeff prides himself on knowing the game and always trying to outthink his opponents. He is not a pitcher by trade but can “certainly throw a few innings if called upon”.
Jeff has stated that he also is interested in both the playing and coaching side of the game and if there is a player-coach opportunity overseas he would be willing to consider that role as well.
Jeff on why he wants to continue with a career overseas:
“I want to continue playing the sport at a competitive level while having the chance to experience new cultures and languages before I begin my professional career outside of baseball.”
Any club interested in a high value import that can contribute to a club in a multitude of ways is wise to contact Jeff soon with any offers.

"Jeff has matured into one of the most versatile players I have ever had in our program. He gained some valuable experience as a young player in the Dodgers system and he has brought that experience to us at Laurier. He has played a number of different positions for us over the years depending on what our needs were from year to year. He is athletic and his athleticism allows him to comfortably move around the diamond. He provides a calming influence to the infield when he is on the field. I have been impressed with Jeff's maturity level as he has really made the most of the opportunity to attend post secondary education following his professional baseball career. He is a great instructor with young players and I've had him work with my son's minor baseball team a number of times. Jeff understands what it's like to be part of a baseball program and will do whatever it takes to help a team succeed both on and off the field".
"I met Jeff Hunt when he returned home after his release by the Dodgers who drafted him out of high school and the Team Canada program. At the time I was coaching with Hamilton Cardinals in the IBL and Jeff signed to play in Brantford. After winning the IBL Championship, he joined the Laurier OUA program where I coached. I have been very impressed with his work ethic, considering especially he was formally a pro player, his willingness to play multiple positions and more importantly the sharing of his experiences with the younger players. It has been a bonus to the program to have someone like Jeff available to answer any questions and concerns and he has taken on special tasks with certain teammates to enhance their games. I consider him to be a character person, strong on family and a pleasure to know both on and off the field."
