Personal

Jeffrey Guerrero is a 2017 graduate of La Sierra University (NAIA) who had 12 starts in his senior season with one complete game while striking out 44 in 75 innings. Jeff feels his three year average era of 7.38 is inaccurate and a direct result of poor keeping of stats and does not reflect his abilities.

Across three Australian seasons in Queensland and Victoria, Jeff has logged a combined 4.70 era over 111 innings, striking out 106.

His best season to date was with the Hamburg Knights in Germany. Over 12 starts, he threw 11 complete games, had an 11-1 record, struck out 93 in 81 innings, with a 3.00 ERA, and earned the Bundesliga 2 All-Star Game MVP honors.

Jeff describes his abilities as; throwing a low-to-mid 80s fastball, able to touch upper 80s with natural cut and occasional sink, complimented by a big 12-6 curveball and a sharp, late-breaking slider, and changeup that sinks with arm-side run. Jeff has the confidence to throw any pitch in any count, mixes his pitches and varies his speed well, all with the same arm speed and has a great pickoff move. A big time competitor who wants the ball, wants to go deep into every game, Jeff thrives when he is under pressure and has great mound presence.

Other than pitching, Jeff is comfortable playing anywhere on the field including catcher. In high school he was mainly an outfielder and a catcher, spending a little time in the infield. In college he played a few innings in the outfield with a couple of ABs. He has above average speed and is a contact-line / drive hitter with gap power.

Jeff also enjoys coaching, most of his experience as an assistant coach of a u16 travel team in California. He has also coached for three different clubs’ junior programs in Australia. Most notably he was the head coach of the Frankston Tomatoes U18 team and led them to a Dandenong Baseball Association championship. With the Hamburg Knights, he assisted coaching nearly every team under the club: Jungen, Schuler, Junior, Landesliga, and 2 Bundesliga.  He would be happy to coach a youth team for any overseas club who brings him on board as a player.

Any club interested in a pitcher/utility player with some coaching experience is encouraged to reach out to Jeff with any questions or to arrange an interview.

Matthias Hahn

German Teammate, Hamburg Knights

Jeff is the first import player I’ve been on the same team with. But he definitely stands out even among a few exceptional of the many US guys I’ve met over the years (sharing our ballpark with another club, as well as on opposing teams). You might not necessarily expect this at first, but Jeff will transform his always calm, relaxed and humble demeanor off the field to the most level headed, focused and confident on field presence I’ve seen.
He’ll make every play look smooth and simple. Every single time - just like when riding a bike, you’d never even think of falling, once you’ve got the hang of it.
What this did for our team is obvious when you look at a few key stats, contributing for example a league dominating 11 of our wins - all of which were complete 7-innning games, including one shutout against the league runner up that I happened to be catching.
It’s hard to put in words how comfortable and confident he made me feel behind the dish, not only that day, and I think I can speak for the whole team in that regard.
There are so many more good things to say of Jeff about how he and I coached kids and youth pitcher & catcher practice together that year, took many extra sessions in the cage, bullpens, or just watching him work his pitcher routines for arm strength and what not. All with the same persistence, commitment and dedication, and way past the final game of the season.
Putting a cherry on the cake, basically proving himself, the stats and overall achievements over the whole year, Jeff won MVP at the league’s all star game that is traditionally played at the end of the season.
I’d absolutely play with Jeff again any day, or you know, just hang out, talk baseball or simply watch him do his thing on the mound.
Feel free to get in touch with me if there’s anything else you’d need to know.
Regards from one former to a potential future teammate of his.
Matthias Hahn, Catcher/ 3rd Baseman Hamburg Knights
