My name is Mannie De La Rosa I was Evans hitting coach during his time at Viterbo University. Evan is an outstanding athlete with some tools that will translate for him at the next level. He possesses extraordinary speed which helped him lock down center field for us this year. He covered the gaps as well as I’ve ever seen from a CF during my time on the staff at VU. Offensively he has great bat speed through the ball. Evan is a strong kid who was beginning to fill out his frame and it showed in the box, his base hits over the infield were beginning to turn into doubles and home runs. He made a lot of pitch by pitch adjustments this year which was beginning to show at the time the season was cancelled. He was taking at great at bats against some of the better teams in the region. One of the things that really made a jump for him this year was his plate discipline, he was taking more walks and working deeper counts in the box. On the bases he is a fearless runner and always works to take the extra base. He can handle the bat well and can bunt for a hit and move the runner over when needed. Off the field Evan was a hard worker whether it was with his studies, his fitness or his work. He was involved in on campus jobs with the IT department. I have never had a character issue with Evan off the field. He was a leader on our team and is very passionate about the game. I enjoyed coaching this kid because he always asked good questions and always looked to get better.
I have known Evan for the last couple of weeks as I have been his coach in the Palm Springs Collegiate League. In this short amount of time I have enjoyed being around Evan. Evan is a quiet guy that shows up everyday on time and ready to get after it on the field. Evan has a high baseball IQ and likes to work on his craft. He is the type of guy you see in the cages after games and on his off days. From a baseball perspective, Evan is quick outfielder with a solid glove and an average arm who can play left, right or center. He can swing it as well but has a tendency at times to get long at the plate and be defensive and put himself in poor counts.
