DJ started his college career at Oregon State but transferred after his first year, playing 2 seasons of Junior College baseball and finally landing at Lynn University. His best performance came his junior year, when he posted a .336 average and a .451 slugging percentage. In 2019 he was invited to spring training with APER Force Baseball Academy in Mexico, and competed in the California Winter League for the Palm Springs Chill.
