Power Hitting NAIA All American outfielder. Played a bit of professional ball. Great teammate that you can build a team around. Very competitive will win at any cost. Finished My Senior year of college hitting .436 with 19 homeruns.

In becoming an all American it took a lot of hard work and dedication to my craft by practicing harder and more then my competitors. In turn I helped to my team by being a silent leading by leading by example. I play the game the right way at 100% all the time. Everything that I do on the field is hard and deliberate.

You can build a team around me because I am willing to came back to a team season after season if the circumstances are right. I am leader in the way that I play, the way I carry myself on and off the field, and I a dependable. You can count on me to pick someone up if there are down to give them the confidence they need to back out on the field to make their next play or get a hit in their next AB. After all a team is only as good as their weakest link.

My competitiveness isn’t only with winning the game. I want to win every pitch too. If I get beat on a pitch I remember that pitch and what count he threw the pitch and what the pitch looked like so that when he throws that pitch next time I’ll be ready.

I have been out of the game of baseball for a few years now. In my time of absence I have still been lifting weights and conditioning myself. As for on the field practice I have been hitting on the weekends in the summer of 2020 and in the fall of 2020 and winter of 2020/2021 I will be practicing on my own time and coaching my old college team the Bellevue University Bruins.

Overseas goals:

  • Extend my career a little longer before hanging them up
  • Use overseas as a stepping stone into professional ball in the U.S.
  • Experience new cultures and meet new people

Bellevue University, Head coach

Derek was a phenomenal player and person for us during his time at Bellevue University. He was instrumental in the success we had as a team in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. We were ranked as high as #2 in the country both years and Derek hit in our 3-hole both seasons. We were a combined 105-23 in his two seasons. Derek hit .425 over his two seasons with 30 homers and 41 doubles. He also drove in 149 runs in 128 games. He is one of the top hitters ever to come through Bellevue University. He was a two-time 1st team all-conference selection. He was named conference player of the year as a senior as well as being named NAIA 1st Team All-American. Not only was Derek a tremendous baseball player, he was a tremendous teammate. He was always supportive of his teammates and was very reliable on and off the field.

Ryan Mummert

Tacoma Community College, Head coach

Derek has overcome so much in life. From a kid that didn't graduate High School and raised by a single mom, Derek turned into a mature young man that impacted our program and learned a lot about life. He moved on to Bellevue University and helped lead them to the World Series as well as become an NAIA All-American and more importantly a college graduate. He has handled so much adversity and any challenge presented to him will be easily accomplished due to his work ethic and mentality.
