Zook Richardson

Metropolitan Collegiate Baseball League Coach

This is a recommendation letter for Daniel (DJ) Rybski. I had the opportunity to coach DJ in the 2016 Metropolitan Collegiate Summer Baseball League in the Chicago area. My experience with DJ showed him to be a highly motivated, intelligent baseball player and a true team player. The professional comparisons, I draw when thinking of what the kind of player DJ is, Dustin Pedroia and Craig Biggio. DJ is an offensive sparkplug that is capable of producing true gap power while delivering patient professional style at-bats game in and game out. He is a smart opportunistic baserunner with decent speed and great quickness. Defensively DJ has good range, soft hands, great instincts and baseball awareness. DJ is a baseball guy that I want on my team and would be a great addition to any team that is lucky enough to get him. If you have any questions about DJ and his baseball abilities feel free to contact me and talk some baseball.

I coached DJ last season and I’ve worked with him since the age of 12. He’s a very hard worker and loves to play the game. He’s a natural leader that’ll do whatever it takes to make his team and teammates better. I highly recommend him for an opportunity to play over seas.

DJ joined my baseball team here in Ireland (the Dublin City Hurricanes) in late May 2018. The Hurricanes are a diverse, multi-cultural club with players from all over the world, including Ireland, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, the US, Canada, Italy and Japan. We are also the 4 time defending A League champions (3 time, before DJ arrived) where starting roles are difficult to obtain for new players. DJ instantly connected with his new teammates and quickly earned a starting spot. DJ is an energy-giver, a Coach's dream. He is a supportive teammate, always "team first", will do anything asked of him. He is respectful of all cultures and nationalities. In fact, he enjoys the connections and friendships made via baseball, thrives on it. On field, DJ is a stud. He is an exceptional middle infielder. His optimal position is 2nd base, but he is versatile enough to jump into SS as required. He played a lot of SS for the Hurricanes and the transition was seamless, embraced without complaint. Terrific hands and glove, excellent range, gets excellent reads, strong arm, makes difficult plays look routine. Turns the double play quick and comfortably. Offensively he is a weapon. Swings to do max damage, nothing defensive about his swing. Hits the ball comfortably to all fields, barrels the ball, not over matched by big velo or fooled by offspeed. In a strong Hurricanes offense, DJ tended to hit 2nd or 3rd. He is a smart base runner. His speed is fairly average, not blistering, but solid. He's a very intelligent base runner, again, leaning on his high baseball IQ to take the extra base, and make good decisions to justify his aggressiveness. He can steal a base where required. DJ Coached quite a bit during his time with Ireland. He regularly lead Hurricanes adult team practice sessions, as well as assisting our youth team coach with our kids. DJ also assisted the Ireland National Team coaching staff in our preparation for the 2018 European C Pool Championships (which Ireland proceeded to win). DJ was named an assistant coach for the Euros, supporting Head Coach Donegal Fergus (Associate Head Coach at YC Santa Barbara), Assistant Coach Nick Lockwood and Manager Sean Mitchell. He takes an athlete centered approach to coaching, developing trust and positive relationships with his players Undoubtedly, DJ will coach baseball at a high level when his playing days are complete. In summary, I can't recommend DJ enough. His next club is landing a big on field asset, teammate, coach and friend. If you or anyone else wish to speak with me directly about DJ, please feel free to call me at +353 85 1655 441.
