Playing Experience

SIGNED TO PLAY AND COACH IN POLAND FOR THE 2018 SUMMER.  Daniel Catalan is a 2014 Holy Names University (NCAA II) graduate who has since played overseas in Spain with Barcelona and in South America with the Chilean National Team. At the plate is an on-base specialist who hits from the left side, draws a lot of walks, and has exceptional bunting abilities. Between college, summer ball and overseas, Daniel has averaged an OBP of over .400 in over 1000 plates appearance. Daniel is a contact hitter who also has above average power, leading HNU in triples in both his seasons with them and in 2015 he led Barcelona in doubles. In the summer of 2016, while playing in the South American Baseball Championship for the Chilean National team, Daniel hit .360 with 3 doubles, 2 triples and 9 rbi in 25 ab’s and was a major factor in their ability to compete closely with the top South American National Teams, including a narrow 7-6 loss to Brazil. For the 2017 summer Daniel signed on to play in France with Paris University (PUC) and is hitting .370 with 12 stolen bases in 18 games as of early August (see stats here). He was also hired to coach the Polish U23 National Team at the European Championships in early August. Defensively he is an excellent outfielder sure handed with the ability to make the extraordinary play. In fact, Daniel did not made an error in his two seasons with HNU, in Spain or with the Chilean National Team. He has an above average arm, admittedly it is sub 90mph, but has mastered the ability to release the ball quick to make up for those few mph he is missing. Daniel pitches in an adult league in California, a position he used to play when he was in a kid all the way up through high school. He has good control and can throw from varying arm angles. He estimates his velocity to be 83-85mph.   He is now looking to play overseas during the 2017-2018 winter.
