Personal

I’m an all conference left handed hitting middle infielder from Vassar College. In 2019 I led Vassar in average and OBP, hitting .350, and .375 in conference play with a .446 OBP, while also leading the team in walks and stolen bases. I am a four year starter at short, second, and third, and I am a two time all-star of the Long Island Collegiate Baseball League in the infield and outfield. I also played a stint in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League last summer where I led my team in OBP at .467. In my sophomore year I was nationally ranked in strikeout percentage with 85 plate appearances and only three strikeouts. I did not strikeout a single time my senior year.

My senior season was unfortunately cut short because of the Covid-19 virus, but I hit .318 with 4rbis in 6 games, and did not make an error in 22 plays at shortstop.

I went off in our fall mini-season as well, hitting .556 with a .704 OBP and 1.481 OPS over about 40 ABs.

I work very well with kids, and I have experience as a tutor/coach at my local batting cages during high school. I have also helped coach at my college’s prospect camp the past three years, so I have successful experiences in the coaching department.

AWARDS:

  • 2019 Liberty League All Conference
  • 2019 Vassar Baseball “Silver Slugger”
  • 2020 Vassar College SAAC award winner for dedication to sport and team, sportsmanship, love for the sport, hard work, and commitment to the team.
  • 2020 Liberty League All Academic Team

I am a self motivated hard worker on and off the field, and I take pride in my work ethic, and improving my game at every opportunity. I play hard with a chip on my shoulder, and do whatever it takes to help my team win. I played a pivotal role as a starting middle infielder and top of the order hitter in helping Vassar College reach the tournament in consecutive years for the first time in program history, tying the all time school record for wins in the process.

I am an outstanding clutch player, and I play my best in the biggest moments. I have always thrived in pressure situations, and I do not back down from any challenge. I have leadership experience, and was a two year captain at the Bronx H.S. of Science, leading us to the New York City Championship game in Yankee stadium.

As my college career ended unexpectedly the way it did, I wholeheartedly reject the notion that this will be my last year playing, especially as I know I am continuing to improve every day, and I will not let my career be ended by a virus. I want nothing more than the opportunity to extend my career in the most competitive environment I can find, and having had teammates now playing very successfully abroad, I know I can be a strong asset to many teams. The game of baseball is sacred to me, and I would love the opportunity to be an ambassador of the game to fans and kids overseas. Thank you for putting in the time to consider my application.

My videos are my senior year highlights, general game highlights including hitting and fielding clips, a short fielding composite, and some cage swings to showcase hitting mechanics.

To whom it may concern, I have had the pleasure of coaching Daniel Bonfiglio aka “Figs” here at Vassar for 3+ years. In that time I have witnessed Daniel grow into not just a very good baseball player but a vital member of the school’s community. I feel lucky to have him here at Vassar and expect that his future will continue to include him being a pillar in the community but also spinning the pitchers cap with base hits up the middle! The number one baseball quality that you will find in Daniel is his ability to hit. This past season we witnessed Daniel jump from a batting average of .240 as a sophomore to leading our team this past spring as a junior with a .350 avg. He also led our team this past fall with an unheard of quality at bat percentage of 78% (31 points above the average on our team), .556avg and 1.481 OPS. Daniel has always had a pretty lefty swing but his instincts and power improved considerably this past year which is why we felt we saw statistical improvements. Daniel works tirelessly on his craft and will continue to do so as long as he plays the game. I would expect him to be one of the better hitting infielders in the Liberty League and could see him performing similarly at any level where he is given the opportunity to compete. Not only has he improved as a hitter but this past fall we saw a massive improvement in aggressiveness and confidence on the field. Going into his senior year, we plan to see Daniel play a combination of second base and short stop and anticipate his passion for the game, leadership and general skill set to lead our program to one of the best the school has ever seen. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about Figs. I would highly recommend him to any program looking for a strong character, hard-working and passionate player with a sweet lefty swing. Sincerely, Matthew R Righter Head Baseball Coach Vassar College

Roman Nunez

MLB Scouting Bureau

My name is Roman Nunez. I am a certified speed, agility and quickness trainer. I have played at the high school, college and professional level. In 2014 I was sponsored by the MLB and completed my MLB Scout Certificate. I have written reports for some MLB teams. Over the last 20 years I have coached and trained players of all levels. Many players have gone on to have successful college careers and some have gone on to play professional baseball. In 2010 I met a young boy named Daniel Bonfiglio. At the time Daniel was the most advanced hitter in little league. He possessed a very balanced and productive swing from the left side. Currently Daniel has grown to over 6 feet. His strength in time management is second to none. Daniel understands what true commitment and dedication can result in. Daniel understands that hard work and effort is what allows him to be so successful in all his activities. He is what we call a “cage rat”. Practicing and refining his game for hours at the training facility. My expertise in projecting what a player will do in the future is what I am very confident in. I project Daniel to be one of the smartest and hardest working players. Sincerely yours, Roman Nunez, MLB Scouting Bureau
