My defense is my strength. Behind the plate I’ve had one pass ball in the past two years, and last season I had zero errors. My arm is also a threat, as many people don’t steal/take big leads when I’m behind the plate. Historically I’ve been a power hitter and a clutch hitter. Recently I’ve had a mind/body misalignment so my recent offensive stats aren’t so impressive, but I’m confident that as I continue to work my mind and body can come back into alignment

I’ve always been the best catcher on my team so I don’t have much experience with other positions. However, I did play right field my senior year of high school and adapted very well. I ended up getting an all-conference award. I’ve also practiced outfield in college whenever we do innies/outies split and pitchers and catchers have to find somewhere to go. I have the strongest arm on my team and can track the ball in the air well.

I’m the type of player who is focused on the field and a leader behind the plate. I’m a confident catcher and make teams better by using my voice to lead. In the dugout I’m also focused but can crack a joke when needed and recognize what my teammates need and meet them where they’re at (especially my pitchers). I lead by example and help my teammates whenever they need something whether that’s extra pitches in the bullpen or being an emotional support person when they’re having a bad game.

Career highlights

I’ve been named to the all-conference team and all-region team. I was also nominated for the regional catcher of the year award. College team captain for 3 years (playing in college for 6 years). My team has been ranked in the top 25 teams consistently for the past two years and will be again this year. Conference champs two years in a row and likely again this year. Made it to the super regional tournament two years in a row. Likely to do the same this year and looking to got to the world series win the DIII national championship.

I’m not looking to coach, but open to leading and working camps/clinics if I end up playing on a team.

Overseas Goals

I’m the best player I’ve ever been (at least defensively) so I want to continue my career to see how far I can go. I also am interested in learning about and experiencing different cultures. To combine these two things would truly be a dream, so that is why I want to take my career overseas!

I’m competing in my last collegiate season currently.

Penny Foore

Bethel University, Head Coach

Cortney is the epitome of a leader. As a catcher, she commands the game and leads our pitchers and defense in such a way it is like having a coach on the field at all times. Since she has had extra years of eligibility due to COVID, it has been very rewarding to have the extra years and see her growth and maturity. She is an asset to any team on the field, and an even better person off the field.

John Jenson

Bethel University, Assistant Coach/Catching Coach

I’ve coached Cortney the past three years at Bethel University (MN). She plays at an elite level and is one of the best defensive catchers in NCAA D3 Softball (receiving, throwing, blocking). She’s been a leader and an integral part of Bethel’s success the last two years (2022 & 2023 MIAC Conference Champions, 2022 & 2023 NCAA Super Regional Participant).

Cortney always comes to practice ready to go to work. She has a positive and dominant presence on the field. I admire her passion and knowledge of the game. She’s always willing to share her ideas and help with the younger catchers on the team.

In short, Bethel University is a stronger program because of Cortney’s involvement due to all of the qualities that I have mentioned above. I can confidently recommend Cortney and hope that she can be a part of a new team overseas next season.

Rich Hanson

Clutch Hitters (Club Team, Bloomington, MN), 18U Head Coach

Cortney played two years under me in 2017 and 2018, and she is a warrior. Outstanding catcher then, and has gotten so much better over the last few years in her college career. I say warrior because she plays hurt, and will never come out of a game unless she is forced to. She absolutely loves the game.

Cortney is a team player who will be one of your loudest cheerleaders on the team. She will do anything you ask of her. Cortney was brought up with high morals by her family. You will not find a more respectful person than Cortney. She is definitely Captain material and a leader. There would be nobody disappointed to have her on their team. Cortney, along with her sister Kayla, were voted into our Clutch Hitters Elite Hall of Fame back in 2022.
