Pitching: Four pitch mix, Four Seam 84-86 (T 88), Changeup 73-75, Curveball 74-76, Slider 78-80. Fastball is heavy with a high spin-rate and alot of rise — plays best in the top of the zone for whiffs and weak pop ups. Best secondary is the changeup, thrown with a kick-change grip — low spin rate and drastic vertical movement like a splitter. Curveball is a true 12-6 knuckle curve, thrown hard and generates alot of swing and miss. Slider moves alot horzontally, with very tight spin. Connor Broughton has tallied 185 innings over the last 4 seasons, including 34 starts, 6 complete games, 233 strikeouts and a record of 17-6. No history of injuries, he is as durable as they get.

Hitting: While having predominantly pitched at the college level, Connor was originally recruited to the University of Toronto as a two-way player. In 77 plate appearances in college and summer ball, he has a slashline of .333/.494/.500, including 1:1 K/BB ratio, and one home run. He has a balanced approach to hitting and a fantastic eye at the plate.

Strong and athletic, Connor is comfortable in both corner outfield positions. He reads the game well, has the ability to track fly balls with strong route running, and a cannon of an arm that has the ability to throw out runners looking for an extra base. He pairs defensive capabilities with a sweet left-handed swing, a good eye at the plate, and a patient approach that works opposing pitchers in to throwing him hittable pitches. He is a great situational hitter with good bat-to-ball skills and the ability to drive in runners for RBIs.

Connor is the definition of a leader. Captaining the University of Toronto to a Canadian national championship in 2025 proved his ability to rally a team together for a greater cause. He is a vocal leader who uses his coaching experience to lead his teammates at practice and during games. While off the field, he is lighthearted, adventurous, and funny, on the field he carries himself with confidence and positivity — always having his teammates’ backs and prepared to hustle on every play.

Connor is one of the easiest guys to approach, welcoming questions, comments, and criticisms from teammates and coaches alike. At practice, he can operate as a secondary coach, who knows the team’s system inside and out, and is willing to provide clarification to anyone who needs it. If a pitcher needs to throw a bullpen or side session, he is the first to throw on the catcher’s gear and get behind the plate, helping his teammates through any mechanical or mental problems they are having. In batting practice he patrols the outfield, hustling to every ball as if it’s the bottom of the ninth inning.

Career highlights

As the captain of the University of Toronto and Oshawa Legionares (collegiate summer ball team), Connor is one of the most decorated baseball players in Canadian collegiate history. He led Toronto to 4 provincial championships and 1 national champions, including getting the win in the 2024 provincial championship, and completing an invincible 17-0 season in 2021. In his two seasons with Oshawa, he won a regional EOBA championship, and completed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in 2024.

Overseas Goals

Baseball is Connor’s greatest passion. He will do anything it takes if it means having the opportunity to baseball into his adult life. Getting the chance to play baseball professionally has been a dream of his since childhood, and he isn’t going to let college graduation stop him from playing the game and continuing to get better.

Having studied geography in university, Connor eventually plans to pursue a career in global development. His passion for travel and the grassroots development of sport mean that this is the perfect chance he has to learn more about the global nature of baseball, which will further influence future career-based decision making. He is excited to work on learning a new language and challenging himself with opportunities well out of his comfort zone.

Having also begun a coaching journey with both Anderson CVI (highschool) and the Oshawa Legionares collegiate summer ball team, he is excited to become a positive impact on youth, and hopes he can have the chance to coach overseas alongside playing. His goal is to be someone’s favourite coach–someone who can be trusted at practices, games, and with personal matters. He believes that youth coaching is one of the most important aspects of childhood development and is willing to put just as much effort into coaching as he is into playing.

Finally, he hopes to become a member of a community. Many small towns across the world rely on their local sports teams for community, and he wants to become part of the overseas baseball world, making friends along the way.

Connor was a great player and teammate for us at U of T. He played the game the right way and was always respectful of his coaches, teammates, umpires and opponents. He is a thoughtful and caring individual and always wants the best for others around him.

On the baseball side he was a dominant right handed pitcher and starter on our team. He came to us as a two way player in his first year but eventually found his way into a starting pitching role, where he became a captain and leader of our pitching staff in his final year.

Connor is a champion, winning 4 OUA championships and 1 Canadian Championship (CNUC) during his time with the Varsity Blues.

Connor is a great team player and genuine person. He would be an asset to any organization that wants to bring him on board.

Connor came to play for us for his final 2 junior seasons in Oshawa and was an absolute workhorse for us. The type of pitcher you love having on the mound because you know you're going to get everything he has every single time out. In 2 seasons for us he had 91.1IP of just 56 hits, 22 earned runs while striking out 114, posting a 2.17 ERA. He also made such an impression on the coaching staff and other players that right when he graduated from our junior program, we signed him to be our pitching coach for the following season and we went 26-5 with a team ERA of 3.49 with him as the pitching coach (277 Ks in 216.1 innings with just 91 total walks). He's a guy that everyone loved having as a teammate and then loved having as their pitching coach. He came into a bit of a tough spot having just played with majority of our pitchers the year prior but immediately demanded all of their respect as their coach, and got it. I can't say enough good things about Connor as both a player and a person.

Connor has been a huge part of UofT’s success in the last four years having a significant role in the 4 championships and one national championship the program has earned during his time as a Blue.

In his first few years Connor was used as a high leverage reliever and eventually became a prominent starter on the staff. Connor’s work ethic was a great example to his teammates as every year he would come back stronger from the offseason through the strength conditioning program that lead to better durability on the mound and an increase in velocity. Connor also did a great job during his pitch design sessions adding new pitches and refining current pitches that lead to his success and consistency as a pitcher for our program.

In his last year Connor was also named one of the captains of the team as he was a vocal leader and held himself and others accountable to maintain the high standards our program preaches. He is a great teammate and uplifts the energy on the team in a positive way and is a great culture player for a team that is looking to strengthen their community.

Connor came to UofT as a two way player and will be an asset to a club that is looking for a pitcher but also someone who can pitch and play a position during their season.

Most importantly Connor has the characteristics to add value to a club not only as a player but a coach that can help develop the youth. He has experience coaching and will be a valuable asset to any club that is looking for someone who is going to do more than just play and help a team win games. Connor will use his time to help coach and provide his experiences to youth that are learning the game and striving to continue to improve.
