CJ is a good hitter for average and has consistently high on-base percentages.  He has posted a time of 7.0 seconds in the 60-yard dash.

Defensively, he was a second baseman in high school and during his freshman year of college, but he trained rigorously to gain strength and was able to move to shortstop for the remainder of his collegiate career.  The velocity on his throws across the diamond range in the mid-80s.

CJ is a natural leader.  He was voted team captain as just a college sophomore, and he is the only four-year captain in his school’s history.

He says, “I came into my size and strength later than most, and I have continued to develop into a better player.”

Washington College Head Coach Cory Beddick has said that Gillmer was “the heart and soul of the team and never takes a day off in practice, conditioning or on gameday. He simply wants to win a championship more than anyone else on the squad.”

Cory Beddick

Washington College Baseball, Head Coach

I have been lucky enough to coach CJ Gillmer for the past 5 years. He is a great leader, talented defender, extremely hard worker, reliable, consistent, and an excellent communicator. He is, by most accounts, the best defensive shortstop in the Centennial Conference, which is the most prestigious at the NCAA Division III level. He is athletic enough to play all over the field, but is the best defensive shortstop I have ever coached. Offensively, he has a high contact approach that allows him to hit the ball to all fields; excellent bunter, base runner, etc. His commitment to his teammates led him to be a four year team captain. He is loyal, trustworthy, and would be an asset to any organization. I cannot recommend him more highly.

Dylan Nepert

Washington College Baseball, Assistant Coach

CJ is a respected leader who sets the standard for work ethic, passion, and character for our program. His attention to detail is unmatched. These qualities have allowed CJ to have a lot of success on the field against all levels of talent. Defensively he is fundamentally sound, smooth, and consistent. He is the backbone of our defense at Washington College. At the plate he battles every pitch, consistently finds the barrel, and puts pressure on the defense. CJ has gotten considerably better every year and constantly works to improve his skill set. CJ is a guy you want in your program.
