Chandler McLaren is an outfielder with a strong arm out of Ontario, Canada who just finished up his first season overseas in 2018 in France D2 where he led the league in most offensive categories including a .580 batting average while ranking in the top five as a pitcher.
He was drafted out of high school in 2009 by the Milwaukee Brewers but turned down the offer in order to play college baseball and get an education. In 2010, Chandler received an offer to play college ball in America for Volunteer State Community College, one of the top-ranked junior college programs in the country. After one season at VSCC, Chandler transferred to Douglas College in British Columbia before finishing off his collegiate career with NAIA’s Bellevue University.
In 2014, Chandler received an opportunity to play professionally in the Intercounty Baseball League around the Greater Toronto Area. Between 2014 and 2016, Chandler played for the Guelph Royals where he saw 329 professional AB’s and batted .334 with 9 homeruns. He is a consistent hitter who can spray to all fields, drive the ball in the gap, and occasionally hit the ball over the fence. With an arm in the low 90’s, he is willing to hop on the mound to relief if necessary. Chandler is looking the opportunity to travel to Europe this summer and find a team for the 2018 season. He would like a team to cover his flights, accommodations, and offer a small salary to cover living expenses.
“I love this sport, I have sweat late into nights and early mornings. Luckily I am still able to compete and play the sport I have spent my life doing. I would love to explore the world and meet new people. See the competition abroad. See the way they compete and prepare themselves for the game. Maybe I can help young careers over there or learn something myself. Being able to travel and see the world through something I have worked so hard on feels surreal. So I’m ready to help win a championship anywhere I go and start living in a new culture.\

Chandler is an exceptionally talented, 5 tool ball player. He can hit for power and average and has great range in the outfield as well as a cannon for an arm. He has demonstrated the ability to throw some effective relief innings as well. Chandler is a leader both on and off the field in action and communication. He has a very cool demeanor and maintains control in any pressure situation typically resulting in a positive outcome for his team. It was a pleasure and an honor to coach Chandler and call him a teammate and to get to watch him perform at a top level in one of the best leagues in Canada.
Chandler McLaren is one of the finest individuals I know. He is a former Brewers draft pick, and has an intimate knowledge of all aspects of the game. I had the pleasure of playing with him - and later managing him - on the Guelph Royals of the Inter-County Baseball League from 2013 - 2015, and was always impressed with his ability and demeanour. From the moment he gets to the park, he leads by example - pulling tarps, setting up cages, and doing fieldwork. His work ethic during battle practice was second to none. He is intrinsically motivated and a lifelong learner. The first time I saw his stretching, fielding and batting routine, I knew he would be one of the best players on the team. Chandler will make a terrific coach. He is patient with his teammates, and has the ability to guide without scolding, and inspire without speaking - although he does the later well too. On many occasions, I witnessed him break down a players mechanics, and give fruitful advice that lead to real in game improvements. He is equally well versed in baseball theory/strategy development. I expect high level performers at the professional amateur, and professional baseball level to to be technically and strategically skillful. What Chandler possesses, that many others do not, is the ability to guide a team. he leads by example, and perhaps most importantly, he has the wherewithal to handle a tough loss. Unfortunately, I see too many coaches with an "I hate loosing mentality," try to motivate players with fear and punishment. Chandler is the opposite of this. He wants to win every game he plays, but knows that you have to look for and capitalize on the opportunities that such teachable moments present. I have every confidence that Chandler will add tremendous value to any team lucky enough to have him. He is the kind of person who leaves everything better than when he found it. I am proud to associate with him, and know that he will be a positive influence on the lives of many.
