Personal
Ben hits for average and has power to the gaps. He also has good ability to get on base, as shown by his continually high on-base percentages, and he is a good situational hitter.
He is a versatile player, having caught, played first base and spent time in the outfield as a pro. He has a best pop time of 1.98 as a catcher, and he also has good speed, which enables him to steal bases, take extra bases when necessary, and cover ground in the outfield. He is good fundamentally.
Ben is a hard-working player and a supportive teammate with a very positive outlook. “I love to play with a relaxed dugout and a good group of guys. I like a bit of banter and hanging out with teammates outside of the field setting. But I’m a hard worker in the cage and on the field, and I love to help out the guys, technically or just throwing BP/flips etc.”
He also has coaching experience and would be excited about lending it to a club’s staff. He has been a Little League coach, a private instructor, and youth player development coach for the Ulm Falcons of the first German Bundesliga. He has focused on structuring of practice plans, correct fundamentals, and mentoring. “Learning takes place when the kids are engaged and know what they are trying to accomplish,” he says. “Therefore, structure and communication are two big ‘musts’ for me as a coach.”
