Personal
Alexander Fernandez is a versatile, contact-oriented hitter who brings offensive consistency, speed, defensive flexibility, and leadership to the field. A natural leadoff hitter, he is comfortable putting the ball in play, reaching base, and using his speed to create opportunities. He has a 6.6-second 60-yard dash and has consistently been one of the more successful base stealers on his teams. Defensively, he has experience at multiple positions and takes pride in being a reliable, consistent teammate.
Fernandez grew up playing primarily in the infield in Venezuela, beginning at just four years old. Second base is his natural position, but he has also played extensively at shortstop and third base. After playing exclusively in the infield through his freshman year of college, a team emergency moved him to the outfield. He embraced the challenge, committed himself to learning the position, and within two seasons had developed into an accomplished center fielder capable of playing all three outfield positions.
Fernandez is also a vocal leader who leads by example. He brings energy to practices and games and is always looking for ways to help his teammates improve. He has served as a team captain for three consecutive seasons, beginning with his sophomore year at Danville Area Community College, and frequently spends additional time in the batting cage working with teammates.
His recent accomplishments include being named his university’s Baseball MVP for the 2025–26 season, serving as team captain during the 2024–25, 2025–26, and 2026–27 seasons, setting his university’s single-game stolen-base record with five steals, and earning Academic All-American honors four times.
For Fernandez, baseball has been a lifelong passion and a goal since childhood. He views playing overseas as an opportunity to continue pursuing that dream while challenging himself, experiencing a new culture, showcasing his abilities, and creating memories that will last long after the season ends.
